So it sounds like the game does an excellent job of crafting a certain mood and really putting the player in the shoes of his character (nothing says totalitarian bureaucracy like endless repetition and spreadsheets!) BUT you both keyed me into something I wasn't aware of before - sounds like the game has a significant "speed" component (are you timed? does the queue constantly move and you only have short time to "clear" people?). That'll be enough to make me glad I didn't take the plunge on this one - thanks for the responses!

A wonderful experience of community, peace love and mung beans and then it's back to the "real world". Thank fuck I don't live in the real world anymore. Some people's reality is darn scary to me! Spending an entire lifetime slaving for money to pay off a debt for a house to retire when one is too old to enjoy the benefits of youth? No thanks! :D

There is a clock. You have to clear as many people through the border as fast as you can in a single shift. The more people through (correctly), the more pay you earn. And the shift clock moves quickly! But it was fun!

So, what does this say about me (other than that I have a little bit of a problem with compulsive buying)?

Now on to the dilemma: As some of you have probably guessed, I'm an over-the-road truck driver. This means that my internet access is through a mobile card, so I am restricted to a monthly bandwidth limit (though I have what I like to call the "big boy" plan... it's still only 10GB per month). So until I get home next (around the first of the month), I need to figure out which game or two (or three?) I want to play.

Any suggestions? :-)

Hey, I read you were going "across the truck stop lot" to grab a snack after some late-night food talk (was that last night? the night before?) and I remember thinking "Oh neat, actually on the road Insomnia-ing in real time from the cab"

And if it were me - well I've already been saying how much I enjoy FTL - and it has the added bonus of being a game you can play in quick bunches - works great for that. For most "bang for your bandwidth," and also because of the turnbased nature - maybe try Smugglers? I haven't played it myself, though it was one I was interested in. It seems like it could be both good for quick plays or sinking hours into at a time depending... plus at 23 MB...!
And lastly - maybe an adventure game to switch things up. Critter Chronicles looks gorgeous or maybe S&M - you bought three of them, time to get to work playing them! And something full of laughs might be nice in place of the more "dry" Smugglers.

The more I read about what people are saying about FTL, the more excited I am getting about it, and the happier I am that the urge to pee woke me up at just the right time to snag FTL in the oh-hell-no hours of the night -- I had been waiting and waiting and WAITING for that one, since it was one of the 2 games I had left on my list after round 2 that I had missed for whatever reason (of course, I bought like 10 games in round 3... compulsive binge buying, remember?) So I think that's probably a good suggestion. Especially since it can be set up for quick short games.

I bought Critter Chronicles because I bought the original TBoUT the last time it was on sale and got plenty of good laughs from it. I will probably need to save that until I get home though, as my other half started playing over my shoulder about halfway through the first one and will love that I picked up the second. lol -- A Sam & Max game is probably a good suggestion too... will have to look at the size of the download.

As you guessed, turn-based games are good for the little bit of relaxation time I have in the truck (though really good turn-based games can bite me in the ass... you know, that whole thing about just-one-more-turn and then the sun is coming up, yeah, that's me.) As long as it is a game that allows you to save at any time. :-)

That was me at that age too :P In a period of 3 years I wore shoes twice. And that was begrudgingly to get into somewhere to see people I really wanted to see. Really toughened the soul :D

That hat and poncho(a gift from Peru!) no longer exist unfortunately. They were part of my travelling gear. That hat walked 383km(approx 240mi) with me down the south coast of New South Wales. A most wonderful and exhausting 2 week walk :) And people wonder why I don't see the need to drive :P

We are truly OT now but this thread has a long way to go to catch up to the 36525 posts in the Fall One. (And it's STILL growing) ;)

After stepping on my 2nd 'pull tab' from the old style beer cans I decided shoes were the way to go, they were American Indian moccasins so were pretty awesome. I hate getting stitches.

It is evening here in Ontario Canada. Looking over the forum, not really reading it, more skimming it as I go from thread to thread, getting a feel of what is "normal" here. I keep coming back to this thread, reading the new posts, laughing at the antics that are still being played out here. Enjoying the camaraderie that has developed with the sleep deprived, hungry, generous people who have spent the week in a kind of hazy vortex, wanting to go, but not daring for fear of missing something, anything. Today, it has been very slow here, almost sleepy, like a lazy meandering stream after the torrent of the rapids of the past week.

Watching people giving game codes away free was an eye opening experience. WHO in their right mind gives games away for nothing!!!???? Then, sometime later, I find myself giving away games for free.(???????) Major face palm moment! lol But giving that first game away in the thread, although foolish(i.e. make a human answer you), was pretty awesome. It seems that the people I gave the games to were scammers. When it happened and I was informed, I was a little upset, then I got the thinking and realized that if that was the way they wanted to be, it would be their loss and not mine. My generosity will eat its way through their selfish exterior and into the soft inner flesh and take root where it will grow and destroy them and their selfishness from the inside out. I realize that most will not believe that, but then I have seen it happen. So have some of you from conversations that I read in the thread. So, in the end, I do not care that the "scammers" got the two games I gave out. I have given more away to people who were more deserving of the gift.

I have more to give away as well: Quest for Glory 1-5, Hitman: Codename 47, Riven, Arcanum, S2, and Deponia 3. There are a few others, but I am not sure yet if I am giving them away, or keeping them. Not sure when I will pass them out, but it will happen. I still can't believe I am doing this! lol See how this thread is!!! Too bad it is over.
