I just wish they'd remaster this game. You know, add more effects, change the units so they are more specific to their factions and add an episode 3 and maybe episode 7 as well. That would be great.

The game just feels too weird in its current state, after all these years.

In all honesty, it felt rather wierd back when first released too. I mean it always felt like a Generic RTS #487 with Star Wars stuff sprinkled on it. Like a total conversion mod of another game. It never really felt like Star Wars, and it barely even looked like Star Wars. It kinda did... and yet was always off.

There is no "like" about it. It's AOE 2 with a Star Wars wrapper. :P

Needless to say, it's one of my favorite games of all time.
Droids needing food never ceases to entertain. ;)

They need that sweet, organic fuel for the power cells.

That's RTS logic for you. Still, for me nothing beats just casually setting up tank factories on the battlefields of WW II in Company of Heroes :P

i almost second that if there wasnt Empire at War :)

Personally, i didn't like Empire at War; I didn't find the game to be as much fun as Galactic Battlegrounds is. And i don't mind that it looks a lot like AoEII, since it is one of my favourite RTS anyway.
It's a cool game but it's really tough for me to enjoy having played Age of Kings first. My favorite star wars rts remains Empire at War, which really captures the feel of the universe for me. I wouldn't mind for a more traditional star wars themed rts though, but I don't imagine that will ever happen now :P

i own both, i love both but empire at war is always a small step ahead coz of the tactical parts and the space combat mixed with ground action

I have both and while I think the space battles in EAW are hands down the best anywhere (mostly because they are all to scale which is totally fucking amazing) but the ground stuff tends to get pretty boring for me pretty fast.

I didn't like space nor ground combat; I found them very simple, especially the ground combat because you cannot build anything. That wouldn't be bad if the game was a tactical TBS but unfortunately it is not. In paper, the gameplay sounds good but, ultimately, I was dissapointed. Without exaggerating, the only good thing I find to the game is it's box art & it's manual (I own the retail DVD version without the expansion).

I agree, the sense of scale is very good in space battles but in the end, i found them just as boring as the ground battles.

I started playing this game again recently, and actually I think it's held up really well. Also, I loved the fanservice with the Trade Federation missions where you could murder Gungans as Darth Maul and kill Jar Jar Binks in the Battle of Naboo. I personally found it funny to have an army of possessed Gungans do my bidding. I'd love to give multiplayer a try if anyone was interested.
