yester64: Can you elaborate on that? so far, the games i have, seems fine without connections. I do not have a lot of games and i try to be picky in what to get.
So long as i can have the install file i am kind of happy.
The worst offender for me was GTA 5. It was on sale on Steam but i could not start it beyond the stupid club. Since i did not use the email i originally used with the club and the email is gone, i had not way to authenticate it anymore. The support was unsupportive as it required me to authenticate with that old email. So refund & delete and so went also my Max Payne which uses the club as well.
Proprietary clients promote a lack of understanding of what is happening under the hood, promote false “achievements”, promote gambling and micro transactions, facilitate DRM in a lot of cases, and are mostly there to capture data on users. There is nothing good about any of them. GOG’s version is no different. And whilst it is claimed to be “optional” if you look into the offline installers you will now see they have been “galaxified” to some degree. Some games will not work without galaxy.dll present. Steam offers drm free games (though no installer), as some epic games can be drm free.
So yes, effectively just swapping the word steam for the word gog and yet continuing on as normal.
Me I don’t subscribe to any of these types of things, I want the product, only the product, no third party drm/online gated/client requirement, fully offline, which is why I came to gog.
