Linko64: Stay Awhile & Listen is a pretty good book on the development of Diablo
Stay a while and listen.

And thank you for saving all of us. This is a debt we can never repay.

Oh, and that will be 100 pieces of gold if you want me to identify anything for you, because I'm a heartless ungrateful piece of shit.

bhrigu: So I was thinking of starting to read books on the history of Video games, and also books that might deal with the importance of video games as a medium of artistic expression and their social significance.
Ok, I know this thread is three months old, but since it got dug up again...

These series are pretty interesting:

The Scroll - Magazines:

You're welcome - I hope you find something interesting. :)
I would suggest Roger Caillois: Man, Play, and Games.

It's not about video games but more about why we play and why it's so important and it easily apply to video games.

Digital Culture, Play, and Identity is also a good book about World of Warcraft from a more academic perspective. Highly recommend that.

Thanks.
Caillois has been on my radar.

Does anyone has any idea how good are the books edited by Katie Salen and Eric Zimmerman, i.e. Rules of Play and The Game Design Reader?
