On the front page of GOG sale front page. Once again I see Tales of Maj'Eyal. This game has ways to catch my attention over past 3 years. Whenever I see it, it's information, video, comments by players lured me to spend at least 40 minutes each time looking at.

This time is the same, the different is that this time I read a review by player on GOG page. Saying Tales of Maj'Eyal is actually free on its official website. That's a surprise to me I never noticed it! With all those free games generously given by developers and sites like GOG/ Humble Bundles/ Steam. I piled up lots of games I do know I don't have time to try.

Yet this Tales of Maj'Eyal, It's something I have been waiting for it on heavy discount / or free. Now that I am aware its free, and read what DarkGod said on its official page. I am going to play this game, if its as good as I was expecting. Sure I am interesting to buy it on GOG and its expansion. How excited I am right now. (You can tell).

I feel like I need a day off from work so I am allowed myself to enjoy this full day!

Thanks GOG! Keep on the DRM-free trends. Thank you so so much
TOME has been free for years. It started as a Lord of the Rings-themed game but they had to change the names and lore when it became a full release. The game was originally called "Tales of Middle Earth".
You don't get to access all content in the free version though. You have to donate to access it. Buying it on GOG or Steam counts as a donation too.
Yeah, what pippin said. Like most original roguelikes ToME is free but you need to donate / buy it to be able to play the expansions and you get some extra stuff.

But by all means play the free version to make sure you like it before spending any money.
It's a great game and I love it, but it's definitely an acquired taste.
ToME always was a free game. Moreover its an opensource game.

The difference (if we are talking base game) between site and paid version is amount of unlockable features (mostly cosmetic options, but also some difficulty-related stuff). But DLCs arent free in any way (and, trust me, atleast Ashes of Urh'Rok is essential, if you dont wanna get rekt).
