Totally depends on what you prefer in online gaming. You can play WoW both in team or alone, it also features PVP and PVE so you can choose on that as well. The quests and storylines are mostly enjoyable but there will be alot of grinding, especially in older areas that aren't as updated as the newer ones.

What is the combat like?

VERY hot key and colldown based and it actually requires some strategy on bosses and elite mobs.

See that's what concerns me. I don't like skill cooldown MMO combat. But I have heard it does take some strategy. I enjoyed the combat in the original Guild Wars though, is it anything like that?

Never played GW but I still recommend playing WoW. Also when I played WoW I played it on private servers and now I'll go legit(hope my dad agrees to it,maybe I can convince him on paying the 6 months sub but that what I want for my birthday along with SC2 and HotS)
