tad10: It's the CE version that gives you early access. So you get pixel ships, the extra race, moo 1,2 and 3 and one or two more things in addition to the game.

I purchased it - be aware that it is a game in development:

Current release:

-Is missing 4 races
-Is missing espionage
-Only has one AI level (Average)
-Only has tactical battle for single player (not for MP)
-Looks great, but tactical battle needs some serious work.

WG is looking at 3-6 months more of development.
Is it possible to make custom races in the current release?

No custom races for 6-8 weeks (EA2?). Per dev comments on Steam, they want to balance the existing races before letting us go crazy with the race customizer.

Good to know. Thank you. :)
Tempting, but no 50 bucks to be a Beta Tester. For a full-ready release. Yes; or 15,- bucks for Beta Testing with upgrade-rights. Or getting payed 50 bucks to test it (Now I'm being silly, I know ;) ).
I've not before purchased an In Dev Access game from GOG before...
Does anyone know if buying now will include the later completed MOO?
Wish the Description was clearer:

The Collector’s Edition includes:
The original Master of Orion 1, 2, and 3
In Development Access
Retro art Pixel Ships
Beautifully detailed Digital Art Book (SOON)
Modernized orchestral soundtrack (SOON)
An additional race: the Terran Khanate. (SOON)

The "Learn more about games in development." page didn't clear it up for me either.
thx

Would make no sense if not.

Yes. You are buying the Collector's Edition which comes with Beta access. You'll get all the beta updates and the final game.
Might want to wait until the banner is officially up in case there is a sale or something. I suppose you could get a refund if there is one and you already bought it - but less hassle.
high rated

mrkgnao: More like:
"This is not the $51.5 (if you live in Greece), $50.0 (if you live in China), $43.4 (if you live in Scotland), $40.7 (if you live in New Zealand), $24.3 (if you live in Guatemala), $23.0 (if you live in Brazil), $11.6 (if you live in Uzbekistan), $11.5 (if you live in Russia) please-pay-us-so-that-we-allow-you-to-beta-test-our game you are looking for...".
Holy cow...

Licurg: Really hyped over this, but can't afford the current price. Will wait for a sale.
If it was Sacrifice 2 though we all know you'd find the money. ;>

I'd sell tinyE's remaining testicle if I had to .
It says that the originals are included. Is that as a gift code/unlock for the ones in the catalog or as extras?

Ixamyakxim: LOL I love that GoG is so embarrassed that they don't even want to put the banner or release announcement up.

"This is not the $50 early access game you are looking for..." Obiwanstyle.

tad10: It's a soft launch, banner won't be up until tomorrow.

So, it's more like a pre-order with early access being one of the pre-order bonuses. If the game is already good and the Linux version is available I might actually go for it. Seems more safe than a regular pre-order.

Edit: Only a Windows version for now.

Niggles: Is this intended to be a reboot, reskin or a sequel?
avatar
tad10: Reboot of MOO. There are a bunch of gameplay videos up on YouTube. Again, it's still in development so their are issues and missing functionality (see above). Mac version is due for phase 2 (late March).
thanks. will be interesting to see how it goes as the originals were supposed to be like the holy grail of the genre werent they?

Im also curious about the pricing. $50ish for the CE.. wonder how much they plan to sell the base game when its out?.

I really need to see more about how this new battle system works before I make up my mind one way or the other.

You'll probably be better off just buying MoO 1+2 now - they're both good games in their own right, and they're different enough that one can enjoy both - forgetting about MoO 3, and buying the regular edition whenever the game actually releases in full. Unless you really care for those collector's "extras." The CE certainly is rather unappealing to me.
