Dean_Demon: Lots of words, but no actual answer to my question
I'm 46 years old. I know how games were made in the beginning (bedroom programmers), but thanks nonetheless for the history lesson.
However, you didn't answer my question: what games exactly did you create/ do you hold copyright and trademarks for?
Or is that a secret?
How difficult are these games? Are they Cup Head hard?

Many things have already been said but one of the OP questions hasn't been answered properly: Rise of the Owlverlord is cheaper because it's shorter (7 vs 23 levels) so the price is proportional to the content.

Dean_Demon: Invaders 64 (Game)
Dark Star (Soundtrack)
Jet Combat Simulator (Soundtrack)
Actionball (Soundtrack)
Realm Of The Undead (Game)
Annihilator (Game) very rare release from 1993
+ many others (now i expect a wall of hate, lol.)
*Invaders 64 (Game) --> a "Space Invaders" clone, and somehow I guess, Taito didn't sell you their copyrights.
*Realm Of The Undead --> can't put my finger on it, definitely a bit of "Pac Man", and the other level...? I know, I've seen that gameplay somewhere...so I guess a mixture of several cloned games.
*Annihilator (Game) very rare release from 1993 --> is that 1993 a typo? Because the only game named "Annihilator" seems to be from 1983. And that is a "Defender" clone.

Let's not talk about the soundtracks, because those alone don't grant you copyrights or a TM to a game.

Man,...if those "many other" games you made, are following the same pattern, I have some bad news for you...you don't own any copyrights and/or TMs.

Not that I didn't suspect that, already... ;)

And I don't want to sound rude (sorry, if it comes over as such), but why would anyone want to remake your games?
If I wanted to remake "Space Invaders" or "Defender" or "Pac Man", I go and clone the originals, not your clones.

EDIT: of course - in case, I found the wrong games, feel free to insert the links to the correct games of yours.

Kinda ironic you'd say that in this thread, no? :D

Not really. I mean, sure - in regard to Gianna Sisters - there's a certain irony involved.

But Dean_Demon claimed, he owned copyrights and TMs to games, and he would never allow his games to be remade.
Turned out, his games were all (well, more or less) clones of copyrighted games.

So, my logical conclusion is: if anyone would want to remake any of these games, they would certainly chose the originals, not his clones.
So, his "Copyrights and TMs" are of no concern to anyone.

-------

I really don't want to start an argument about this.
That would be dumb.

Truth be told - when I read his first comment:
avatar
Dean_Demon: this is the reason why i don't usually allow any of my past games to get remade
...I replied in jest, because I thought, he was just bragging, like we all see happen so often on the internet. I didn't expect a reply to my question.

But then he came back and said:
avatar
Dean_Demon: Yes i certainly can if i own the copyright and trademark for which most of them i do.
Now, that really picked my curiosity. Should there really be someone on GOG, whose games I may have played?

So I asked for the names of the games. Out of genuine and enthusiastic curiosity.

But all I got was a short summary on the history how games were made in the late 70s, early 80s. But again no names of any games he made. Which was a bit sobering, because I lived through that times, and was more interested in the actual games in question.

So I "mocked" him a little about his "secret games", believing again, he is just bragging on the internet.

And then, he finally gave me a list of games (and mostly soundtracks) he was involved in.
And then they are all (more or less) clones of already existing copyrighted games.

Let's say - I am a little disappointed. After all the "foreplay" I expected more.

Dean_Demon: I don't have to justify anything...
That's fine - I never said, you have to.

avatar
Dean_Demon: Realm of the Undead was a totally original game and not cloned from anything...
Ok, fine again...it certainly borrowed gameplays, but that's nothing new (and wasn't even new, back in the late 70s, early 80s).

Dean_Demon: Annihilator was indeed released in 1993, it was a 3D racer with weapons and like i said was very rare as it had limited release
Well, it sure seems to be rare - I wasn't able to find something about it. Even with the added info (car racing with weapons). Of course, it might be buried deeper in Google, than I am willing to dig.

Dean_Demon: The attitude of gamers today is quite outrageous and hence todays developers don't want to engage with their communites and you can't blame them, you only have to look at steam to see why.
I absolutely agree.
I was honestly stoked by the prospect of possibly having found someone, whose games I (probably?) played, and whom I wanted to thank, if it was the case.
Unfortunately, you dont seem to be one of the guys, whose games I played.
Which, of course, isn't your fault - I am just a little disappointed.

But I assure you - there are no hard feelings from my side.

avatar
Dean_Demon: Good luck all as my heart isn't into beating my head against a brick wall.
And there is no need to do so...good luck to you, too.

pmcollectorboy: I was watching a video on Super Mario clones/ripoffs and Giana Sisters came up, which I had no idea started life as a C64 game. It looked pretty lame, but judging by the games here, it seemed like the franchise had come a long way since being accused of a Nintendo ripoff. I was wondering how they are as games and why the second one is far cheaper than the first.
The original C64 game compared to SMB has more powerups and bosses for once. It took quite some years to be rebooted in 2009 i believe on (ironically) Nintendo DS which got a PC re-release and it is a fun platformer with some new stuff added on.

Then ther are Black Forest ones and i've played only the Twisted Dreams demo so far, it's entirely different which relies on switching forms to blaze through the levels. Innocent one lets you stay in the air longer while the Punk Mode lets you perform a rolling dash to break stuff.

Overall they are nice games to play so far, just don't play Giana Sisters 3 as it has nothing to do with the series and it was made by some guy on a How To Make A Shooter Engine (or something) on C64. Giana 2 is a reskin of other platformer, not related to Rainbow Arts.
I've only played the new (well technically not new anymore but you know what I mean) Giana sisters. I got tired of it by the end, and haven't even tried the expansion yet.
