Enebias: Hey GOG staffers, look at the main page. Remember when you threatened to ban me when I made the pun "Paradicks Entertainment" (whopps I did it again)?

And when you said "no politics allowed"? Isn't that time to ban some users here for serious violations so that maybe sane people can enjoy some civil discussions once more? Thank you.
Well said.

GOG can ban one guy for saying something, to show an "example" to the rest.

But they don't have the ***** to ban a bunch of people, for the exact same lame reason.

GOG-bear is old, scared, and becoming more and more lame and unsure of anything anymore.

ReynardFox: If GOG is going to give away a blatantly political game, they'd be acting like hypocritical cowards if they banned political discussion in the thread about it.
Aye aye.

I got this in that itch.io bundle. It wasn’t very good. Didn’t bother getting the freebie here.

patrikc: A few more hours until the giveaway is over. What do you think, will GOG lock their own thread?
avatar
RedRagan: I heard they removed a post of someone supported Hong Kong protesters. Either they're afraid of political backlash or they already folded under certain groups.
Imaginary pixallated "socialists" = double plus good.
IRL Hong Kongers fighting for democracy and common law = wrongthink and straight to gulag!

the absolute state of GOG...

BoozeJunky: Content Advisory: Explicit Socialist Lyrics?
Naw, bud. I had enough of that garbage growing up.
Better than stuff being banned or censored, at any rate...and it would be more for the not too bright among us rather than people like us(the former seemingly outnumbering the latter these days, sadly).

BoozeJunky: If anyone feels duped, then GOG has one of the best return policies on FREE MARKET.
I don't think one can return free games.

Orkhepaj: did gog pay for this to make it a giveaway?:O
My guess is the devs decided to give it away.....for free...to fit the theme of the game and all.
(of course then they'll go back to taking money for it like any other capitalists...but we'll quietly ignore that o.0 ;))

MarkoH01: Nope, it is not hard for me at all - imo it's just ridiculous that there are still people out there complaining about a few pixels on a screen, that's all.
(preface: no offense meant with this, btw...trying to make a point)

And some are still complaining on/off about the removal of an old downloader program, or a few cosmetic skins locked behind DRM.

The point being that to others, some things are valued differently...some things some of us might dismiss or not hold so highly might be held very importantly to some people.

avatar
MarkoH01: It is also just an opinion but I thought we all would agree that a videogame never hurt anyone. I never tried to suppress opinions here I just tried to remind people that we are talking about a stupid videogame and nothing more.
And in most cases(more so in the past, less now, imo) you'd be right.

Usually games don't(or don't seem to) negatively influence people to such degrees, but with the way a number of people are easily influenced/led(as shown by social media posts/etc), such games likely have a higher chance of negatively influencing(when combined with other things like advertisements and social media posts/etc) a higher percentage of such people.

All that said, I don't mind some people(especially those who know what they're playing and how not to be influenced by such) playing it....I just mainly find it being made/sold now(2020s) in poor taste.

ilektron: The game itself is very repetitive with very awkward controls - a combination of mouse and keyboard that makes no sense whatsoever! And no, there is no way to change them.
The game is basically going up to things and pressing the punch button with the occasional press of the shift key to get more violent commies and then repeat everything till you get sick of it.

Also has run of the mill trashy pixel graphics paired with a really annoying musical score.

The fact that it promotes a vile ideological message in the game is another matter. It basically promotes violence, that's what the call to "Direct action" means. Communism in all it's flavors is evil.
Does it promote violence more than Mortal Kombat or COD? I don't agree with the ideology of the game but damn. Now we're blaming video games for causing violence like some bored, old, out-of-touch politicians? Because it doesn't share our ideology? Death to Germans in video games is cool, death to Middle Eastern "terrorists" in games is cool. Death to Capitalists is bad? Violence against an inherently unfair system wherein the rich are unjustly rewarded for abusing the poor and then stealing the biggest chunk of the reward after the poor did literally 99% of the work is bad? Forgive me if these economic terrorists ruining lives is just as bad to me as the bombing terrorists. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against capitalism, I'm against unregulated capitalism where executives can grant themselves giant multimillion dollar bonuses while their employees choose between rent and food.

Given the kind of sentiment expressed in your profile description, it's rather silly if you complain Gog doesn't ban users. Because by any standard you'd be high up on the ban list yourself. imo you should do the smart thing and change that.

yes
cause for promotion what matters is how strongly you can resemble real people as the targets of the violence
like if they would make a game where you had to assassinate someone who is so strongly resembles a real politician everybody can see what their aim was is for me promoting violence
same with groups

No, some of us are just of the opinion that games/media somewhat influence people(some more than others)....and in today's day(where a number of people rely on the net and any source for their beliefs/opinions) even more so.....especially when combined with other sources(social media posts/etc).

Also there's a big diff between the politicians and some of us here: some of us don't want said games to be banned

As for this game: I find a game that more or less makes all cops out to be bad a bit different than a game where someone fights some members of some criminal group(gang, terr*rists, etc).

Ennson: It seems that you have only read some misleading reviews and not actually played the game. The whole message is progressive anti-racist pro-feminist in that game. One of your main character is *mixed-race* * female* soldier. Your crew fights as much against "heathen" natives as they are fighting against the "catholic" spanish. So no racism there. Moreover, if there are any racist or misogynist characters then the game makes sure you know how bad and evil racism and misogyny is.

I suggest you play actually the game before making judgement or pass your public opinion on them.
avatar
squid830: I've played through the game multiple times. Yes you CAN play as a progressive - but you can also play as a proper Conquistador (token mixed-race chick notwithstanding). BTW although I kept the mixed race chick and even rescued her from the bastards who wanted to sacrifice her, I then sold her to the evil temple guy in the next map - because the irony of that act was too hard to resist. ;)

And there is a TON of racist options that you can choose - which will be validated and applauded by your racist team members.

Finally, unless you completely exploit the game's mechanics by making profits selling food or medicine (possible with really high hunting and medical skill respectively), the only way to get the best ending for your character is to be a total bastard. Basically, you need to conquer the region for Spain and also bring back above a certain amount of Gold - which requires being a bastard since without using exploits, the only way to do this is to pillage as much as possible whenever possible, while also doing asshole things like selling someone to the temple to sacrifice, and when faced with a choice between saving a team member or getting gold, always choosing the gold.

If you don't conquer it for Spain, you're not really celebrated at all when you come back - King's disappointed. If you bring back less than the required amount of gold, you don't get much of a reward from the King despite conquering the region.

Also, you'll note that right at the start of the game you can choose to only bring paid workers with you instead of slaves - but the slaves are given freely, whereas the paid workers cost you. The only advantage the paid workers provide is that if you lose certain battles, you're not screwed over as badly (which is easy enough to avoid by not losing said battles).

So don't go around stating that the game tries to preach a pacifistic approach, when that is completely untrue.

I suggest YOU actually play the game - right to the end that is, and not give up as soon as you're offended by a mixed-race chick or whatever it is that stopped you the first time.

kohlrak: What FPS is right wing? Even Duke Nukem is left-wing.

From that description the best way to win the communist revolution is to collect resources and be a capitalist?

They were talking about another game (Expeditions:Conquistador) with that blurb, not the game being given out here.

Indeed, and Expeditions: Conquistador is actually a good game which I'd recommend to anybody interested in turn-based combat and an exploration sim with survival elements. Also pretty good role-playing opportunities.

Yeah, sounds like a game where I can be either a good guy or bad guy or whatever....I like such games that don't try to make me follow one set way/path/etc.

-

On a related note..to you/the thread: If this game offered me a chance to play as the cops and arrest the rioters then maybe i'd be less against it, and might even want to try it out.

Anyone know if an expansion/dlc is in the works to add such options?
