...I'm sorry, this position seems to be a complete bench warmer position. Searching for solutions to problems that don't exist, or worse; have such blindingly obvious solutions that everyone is afraid to state them for fear of making someone look foolish.

I'm sorry, but GOG's recommendation system is terrible. I am glad they are focusing on that.

Oh, it is still open?
Then... maybe they have so many excellent candidates that they have trouble interviewing them all and making a choice?

I don't know how long their positions stay open, but I have seen similar posts hanging for more than one year. And it was not due to the lack of candidates.

Week 22, 2024!

Let's go back to the days when OS/2 was the peak of UI/UX design, because someone seeks a senior designer of UX/UI!

What do we actually want with a UI/UX designer?
Co-creating the overall user experience for GOG from long-term product vision to tactical features for our gamers and publishers
Understanding our users and ensuring the whole business does too! Planning, conducting, and synthesizing research
Helping to translate business requirements into user stories: designing wireframes, screens, and prototypes
Co-creating, then delivering the product roadmap
Innovating on our user experience across the entire organisation. Then upholding those standards across the entire organisation
I don't think they know. This sounds like a job for some stooge in marketing, not a UI guru.

Is there any point to tracking this stuff if we can't even see much tangible from an end user's point of view?

I know it takes time for things to pay itself off, but I haven't seen any direct benefit these positions have added since Q3 2023. It seems like whatever little community correspondence there is is already being done by senior staff like jpolgesek and the graphics designer (think it was Kozmo or something).

You know what's less fun than a hokey old board game that's just a lite version of Shogi?

PR Strategy. Especially when you're having to do it internationally.

Do you want to have your fingers on the heartbeat of culture of at least 64 major nations and economic zones?


Sounds like a nightmare. Why would you subject yourself to that kind of plate spinning?

You know what's less fun than a hokey old board game that's just a lite version of Shogi?
A modern game that's more focused on overproduced cool miniatures than on good gameplay and comprehensible rules?

I like Stratego, it's a solid game. Never heard of Shogi before, but a quick glance at Wikipedia makes it look like comparison with Stratego is a stretch and a half.

Yeah, Shogi is far more comparable to Chess than to Stratego. That's why it is also often refered to as Chinese Chess.

Shōgi is a Japanese game, and Stratego is even mentioned as being inspired by Gunjin Shōgi.

I am aware of Shogi being Japanese but there has always been a cultural exchange between Asian countries and many things exist in China as well as in Japan and other Asian countries with only slight variations. Like for example Go.

I just checked in more detail. The games are indeed quite similar, but you are right that they are not the same.

Wanna make a website that is absolute dog? Try Angular, the typescript extension nobody asked for! Pssh, who needs simple HTML and CSS scripts to run a website, make it all an awful typescript!

Oh, GOG is hiring a lead engineer whose primary work is Angular. Hope they have good fishing in Warsaw, because knowing the mess that GOG's front of house is, I can imagine they're going to have a lot of free time, unless GOG plans to knock the entire website out and replace it.
