Interesting

Let's see what comes out of this, official modding tools are always nice.
Not sure how I feel about that, since Mod.io is Epic Games, and I consider them to be a plague...

What reservations do you have about it, exactly? The tool itself is included with the game, so to create or download a mod, or view the guides hosted there, having a mod.io account isn't required. Aye, an account would be required to upload your mod there.

Made the #1 spot in the RPG Codex GOTY 2024 vote:

https://rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=12529

"Here we are again, it's time for the RPG Codex best RPGs of 2024!

This is our third year going back to a Codex-only vote, on a 1-5 scale. In total, we had 268 votes (as opposed to 430 last year), voting on 179 RPGs (162 last year).

And the RPG Codex GOTY winner is.... SKALD: Against the Black Priory!

RPG is the new RPG! Congratulations to High North Studios, it's been a long journey since the 2019 Kickstarter! I honestly wasn't sure what to expect this year, there was no clear favorite, but looking at the graph it's easy to see that Skald won by a big margin:

2nd place goes to Drova - Forsaken Kin, which won the hearts of the Codex by basically being 2D Gothic.

3rd place went to Felvidek, which used RPG Maker to portray a busy weekend in the life of an average codexer.

Here's the full Top 10 results:

https://rpgcodex.net/gallery/18419.png

1 - SKALD: Against the Black Priory
2 - Drova - Forsaken Kin
3 - Felvidek
4 - Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Void Shadows
5 - Path of Achra (Legacy community wishlist entry)
6 - Caves of Qud
7 - Geneforge 2 - Infestation
8 - Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree
9 - Dragon's Dogma II
10 - Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

Breaking down in categories:

GOTY
1 - SKALD: Against the Black Priory
2 - Drova - Forsaken Kin
3 - Felvidek
4 - Path of Achra (Legacy community wishlist entry)
5 - Caves of Qud

DLC/Expansion
1 - Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader - Void Shadows
2 - Elden Ring - Shadow of the Erdtree
3 - Heads Will Roll: Reforged - Not a Hero

PC Port/Remake/Remaster
1 - Geneforge 2 - Infestation
2 - Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
3 - Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord

As for the hidden gems, seems like more of us should play Withering Rooms and the new DLCs for Suzerain & Heads Will Roll: Reforged. Also, if you look at the graph, those huge bubbles are Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island and The Matchless KungFu, which had very high % of 5/5 votes.

Finally, Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred was voted the worst RPG of 2024, in line with the base game being the worst one of 2023.

And that's it, thanks to everyone who took part, Twiglard for setting the poll and Abu Antar for making the annual game release list.

It was a weak-ish year for RPGs, personally I'd have picked the Void Shadows DLC which says a lot (despite being really good)
