The retail version allows to choose between internet or LAN game.

However in GOG version it's somehow "blocked", you can click on MP option, but can't change it (only LAN option is selected), and no matter if you choose to join or create a game, clicking on "ok" button won't bring you to the next screen.

I would really appreciate the solution, how to make it available again.

P.S. By the way, I know that this game is made on PG 2 engine, however by some reason it has no hot-seat option. This is probably an extremely hard question (I personally would have no idea, where to start), but is there any opton to "mod" this game to add this feature?

My situation is quite opposite: I can not create (can only join) a LAN game, but able to create or join the MP game. Try to set compatibility with older operation system if you use modern OS. Also if you have an AV app check if it blocks the network connection for the game executable.
Are you referring to this multiplayer screen?

I just installed it through Galaxy. and was able to select Internet Connection and was able to progress to the next screen for both joining and creating a game.

Curiously enough, I can't set it back to LAN connection after I've selected Internet Connection.

It seems I can confirm it is possible, but I can't explain why it doesn't work for you.

I think LAN play is implemented using the IPX protocol which is no longer included in modern Windows. There is apparently something called IPXWrapper which claims to tunnel it over UDP which could restore that functionality. I've never tried it though.

Yes, exactly this one.

And I have here marked LAN option, can't change it. And when I'm trying t ocreate the game, I'm clicking on green button, but nothing happens (despite the fact that I have all fields filled, when they're not, the green button is greyed out).

I've checked my firewall, tried compatibilty mode, admin mode - but it's still not working

If any of you own a GOG Warcraft II BNE, copy and paste the ipxwrapper.dll into the Rites of war folder. I say Warcraft because it is one of those which offer a similar dxwrapper and apparently also the ipxwrapper. It can be used another game, I guess.

No idea if it will work but well, iti's worth the try.

Tried it, but sadly didn't work in my case. It's still the same as it was.

(but thanks a lot for the idea and trying to help!)

In fact I am having the same behaviour wth any of the multi options. When all is apparetly configured the next button is greyed. I have not looked deeper though and not sure if I configured things correctly. I will try t look again later.

greetings

I wonder what OS you and Gudadantza using. Also do you have an Antivirus program of any kind? Because it looks like something is blocking the connection option for this game (firewall or your antivirus).

I'm using Windows 8.1 64 bit and have Commodo Internet Security.

But I've already checked this, Commodo would give me some messages, but just in case I've already added RoW as trusted application to the rules and still nothing.
Windows 10 here. the antivirus is the default Windows defender.

If it is blocked, it is silently, no popup or firewall advertising of any kind

EDIT: Anyway in the past I created exceptions for the GOG folders, games etc...

Try to set your antivirus application off just to check if it affects the game somehow. Setting compatibility with older operation systems for the executable might also help.
I've turn off my antivirus/firewall for a moment to check, but it doesn't help. Earlier I've set the game as trusted application anyway.

I've already tried compatibility mode, admin mode, tried to use that IPX file from Warcraft 2, but all of this is not working.
