It sounds like something from a Cyberpunk dystopia, unskippable ads beamed directly into your brain. Good thing I don't like a shit about VR because it's a dumb fad.
low rated

That and having a monitor strapped to your face mere centimeters from your eyes cannot be good for your health/eyesight, I don't care what anyone says to the contrary.
I'll be honest I'm not willing to read arstechnica's click-bait articles, but I seem to remember that at one point, you could buy the full-price Oculus, or an ad-supported Oculus for much cheaper entry-level price.

Is this a different thing? Is Facebook now forcing all Oculus units to show ads?
Facebook, not sure how it could be worse than I think?

Facebook bought Oculus. They own it. You can't use it without a Facebook account. If you get banned for any reason, your Oculus is a brick.

Yes, after Facebook bought Oculus, after they own it, after they introduced the requirement to link a Facebook account, after they introduced the disabling of the bought unit should the linked Facebook get banned.

They introduced two versions of the Oculus, one that was cheaper but ad-supported, and one that was full-priced but didn't have adds... for both you still had to link a Facebook account.

This is when I asked my question:

Horrible
especially with their lame biased TOS and moderation
It would have to set the user on fire to be worse than I think.

No, that would improve it, blessed relief and all that.
The good news is that all profits go directly to zuckerburg without passing any tax authority or supporting any community they such dry.

Killing off its host? Nah not likely! What about injecting FaceBorg nanoprobes?

very good :P
wonder what he does with his money , probably nothing good for humanity
maybe a 100% nonstop surveillance system to help those who wants to control others
I love VR so much, but fear that Facebook will manage to destroy the medium completely. Several games has been downgrade to run on Quest already, and most new stuff is targeted towards Quest. And now they have ads too. It's like we have returned to Google Cardboard. Oh well, at least I have a solid backlog of VR games!

Here's a comic strip I did last year, sumarizing the history of Oculus. Feel sorta smug predicting the ads, but it was kind of obvious, really.
