I played the PC port of the DS remake of IV though and found myself not disliking it, surprisingly. I'm not a huge fan of the art style compared to the sprites I grew up with but it's something I can live with. I was even surprised to find I didn't hate the inclusion of voice acting in the cutscenes.
Steam/Smartphone version (I don't consider games only available on DRM-encumbered stores to be true PC releases) has an added difficulty setting that makes the game easier (the original DS difficulty, which is still available on the later versions, is sometimes rather unfair in its difficulty; the CPU battle, for example).
DS version has an added customizable summon known as Whyt, who replaces Rydia for 3 turns and can be given custom abilities. My favorite use for Whyt is to give it a healing spell and no other abilities, turning it into a healing summon that's more reliable than Asura. (One of the 2 ways I like to have Rydia heal, the other being to give her Bardsong, as she is the best character to get that particular augment.)
