GameRager is dead on with FreeLancer, and I feel like an asshole for missing it.

FreeLancer is not only good, it's probably in my top ten all time. The controls are enough to make it great because I for one get a little weary of needing eight arms and fifty fingers to control most space sims. :P FreeLancer gives you total control with just the mouse, and I mean total control. It's not like your options or limited, you operate the entire ship.

Also Ian Ziering is the voice of the protagonist, and YOU CAN'T TOP THAT!

Freelancer does look good if I can pick it up cheap I will. Just found I had Starpoint Gemini but never played it.
I have been playing Drox Operative and love the space combat and looting thought it would be cool if that game had planet exploration and space stations and such.

Greywolf234: Thanks for all the replies Freelancer looks great but I got windows 10. Rebel Galaxy looks good I got that one free from PSplus but never played it, Darkstar one looks promising.
Freelancer should be Win10 compatible out of the box or with minor tweaks/etc...it also has some good fighting and plot. Starlancer(which may be it's prequel) is also good but probably might not work in Win10.

All the factions/intrigue/backstabbing/plot(albeit cliche and old hat) are pretty good, and so are the missions/side stuff. The intro is great as well.

BTW I know you might not reply to this(but it was welcome that you agreed with me on something & acknowledged something I said for once.....that sort of connection is nice to see...:)....), but have you ever played Starlancer? It is a prequel/spiritual prequel with some of the same stuff, iirc.

If you can't find it for sale anywhere and aren't opposed to a bit of scurvy dog gaming i'd recommend downloading it somewhere...it's THAT good.

Someone above posted a link to a tweak page to get it running on Win10 if you ever get it. Also starlancer may be hard to get legally, and get working. I have it on disc though, somewhere in my home anyways.

Also, if you want to reply to someone and have them notified it;s easier to hit reply next to the upper right corner of a post and reply in the new box as then the user will get a notificaiton. Just a head's up if you didn;t know. :)

No problem...I was merely trying to be helpful.

Hi, thanks, will check it out. looks interesting! :)
Parkan 2
It's got space and planetary fighting. You can explore a very small part of a planet (usually a base), but it still scratches that itch of a game with both aspects available.

Honorable mention:
Stellaris
It's a strategy game so it's not at all like NMS in that regard, but it really knocks that space exploration bit into orbit. The universe of Stellaris is just filled with so many strange and wondrous things to come across and learn about
