Klumpen0815: Brasas trolled someone and I missed it?
If it really happened, then I can only imagine that he was drunk.

What was it about?
Chomsky... but seriously I still kind of object to calling it trolling... eye of the beholder and all that...

As to any suggestion I was inebriated... allow me to paraphrase: I experimented with liquor a time or two, and I didn't like it. I didn't imbibe and never tried alcohol again. ;)

Also it depends upon what the meaning of the word was is...

Never drink and Chomsky. Dangerous combo.

I know right? I mean... I've heard something. Only thing worse is Marx and sex apparently.
Well we sure don't want a community without TinyE.

I have a hilarious and gross sex joke to add there... but in light of the recent TinyE controversy, I'll refrain from sharing.

Self censorship. It's fun! Come on and join the fun.

Gnostic: Maybe I am bad in arranging my sentence because later in my post I say this.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Granted there are some people benefit much more in the internet communities then only feels, But they mostly resides in the programming thread, technology / mathematical study thread, motivating thread, how to build your PC thread, How to DIY something thread, health thread, cooking thread.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I acknowledge what you said and the benefits you said mostly exhibit in the thread I described.

Given the thirstiness of the blood bank over here I think some people might been saved. And I count animal lives too.

flanner: basically, i cant see reason why even to compare the types of communities at all. as for me, my life have been more influenced by people met (initially) on the internet, if regarding positive influences only..
That's what I want to hear. I think Brasas has a too negative opinion of the community to create this thread.

We have numerous gifting thread and forum games thread that are heavily participated every day. We have hugging thread, be silly and have fun thread, cooking recipe thread, ask for help thread, games / movie / book / music recommendation thread, GoG website coding improvement thread, guessing thread, news thread.

Political thread comes up much less frequent then these. And not all political thread gone to shit. Like this thread, it is political in nature, and after people use the biological ignore button it has turn for the better, leaving interested people with a certain level of respect to each other discussing.

I guess it is only human nature to remember the negatives then the positive. I learn things better the hard way.

Seeing how this thread got the manic downreppers attention, it seems to be political indeed.

Yeah, someone's been on a tear lately. I've noticed lots of members' rep numbers going down, including my own.

Could be those nasty North Korean weaponized down-rep bots. Communism is hiding behind every corner. We must always be vigilant against the Red Menace.

Maybe... Most of the forum is great - that counts like 80 / 85% of the whole.

But even in the gifting threads - which otherwise prove how generous the community is - there is enough dirt. And in the political threads, dear lord but things get personal fast...

It is my bias to care more about serious discussion - including of political topics - than about many other parts of the forum. But inside that area of focus, I can give you many examples of the kind of negatives I am trying to get folks to avoid.

And they are negatives. For example, one very very big one, is a huge blindspot: The derailing via joking.

In real life if a number of people are trying to have a serious conversation, and others come in and start cracking jokes intending very clearly to drown out the conversation - that is dismissive even if well intentioned. It is disrespectful. Fun but still assholery - at least not as bad as making protests in funerals for a reference the US forumers will get.

Free speech is fine, but self restraint is better.

So I don't think I have too negative an opinion. And what happened earlier in the thread is a perfect example of some of the negative dynamics that I see too often. This thread did turn to shit. Personal dislikes and irreverence contributing to a playground like situation - I tried like hell to turn it around, and to some extend succeeded with others help (like you - you are one of the calmest and most respectful people around, and a big thank you for that), but that smell lingers.

Let's call it a privilege that the corners of GOG I frequent seem to so often provide such examples... even if those places are only 5% of the whole. Imagine how fortunate and happy I feel about that.

Klumpen0815: Seeing how this thread got the manic downreppers attention, it seems to be political indeed.
I actually disagree. I mean, the thread is political by intention, as I admitted earlier. But despite others assurances, I am more and more convinced the downrepping is very personal.

It's sometimes actually interestign to observe the phases of rep. The tone wave, where the aggressive stuff gets downvoted, then the irreverent wave where the funny jabs go up, then the wave of donvoting person X, then the wave of upvoting person Y and Z, and on it goes.

Unfortunatelly I don't want to point the examples I noticed, as I suspect that would only make them targets to an even larger extent. It's a devil's bargain. Tragic really.

GioVio123: Too bad it still can be used as a verb

Brasas: It can? [scratches head...]

Are you thinking of enact with e instead of i?
I could post the picture of the dictionary I have on my bookshelve if you want, I am aware of both words, however I did appoint to the word inaction as a verb :P

[Unrelated to the response]
Also, someone who mispronounces the name Deus Ex with "Dues" Ex (I thought for a moment that person said DooDoo, not kidding) should at least get a week of community service, also for the one who said The "Withcer" 2
