I see on the front store page there is a coupon code listed for the Hitman games.

Does this seem redundant to anyone else? Why not just discount it instead?
Why do things logically? Just think, instead of a fixed say 30% discount on a game, and instead you have a 30% discount one time use? Mechanically the same...

Well not quite. I'm sure coupons were originally for just those getting the emails from GoG so they can get a boost for being good little customers... But as useless as the coupons are we dump them in the 'expiring codes' anyways... or ignore them.

So i don't know. Maybe it's a new toy, or maybe they got permission to add a discount but if they can get people to forget it, then they pay more... though you might only consider the game because it has a discount, so it's very much a lot of extra work for almost no advantage.
I almost never visit the homepage, so I didn't know it was there. You might think that's the point, to keep it exclusive that way. But then it was pointed out in a newsletter, so there's hardly anyone who wouldn't know about it.

It's also curious that there are at least two codes, one that ends with A and another ending in B. It was also that way with the last game that had a homepage discount code.
I suppose it is a way to limit the scope of a promotion.

Games obtained by coupon code can only be added to your own account. If you already own the game, you are forbidden from acquiring another copy.

With discounts, games can be purchased as a gift. You get a code that never expires and can be sent to anyone. (There is a limit of 1 gift copy per user, per day though. No buying hundreds of copies at 90% off).

This has the biggest impact on DLC. With a coupon code, I can't purchase heavily discounted DLC before purchasing the base game. With a discounted price however, I am allowed to purchase it as a gift, to be redeemed when I purchase the game at a later date (hopefully at a very nice discount).

nah probably a pr waman read somewhere that if you increase activity for customers they will buy more
so now we got this feature to manually enter the codes for the discounts , probably more personal or something...
With the coupon you can't buy gift codes. That's a huge difference to normal promos. Either GOG or Square Enix probably wants to limit the number of codes that end up at shady reseller sites.
That makes sense I suppose, though I rarely see GOG ckeys for sale on key sites.

Well, what if you'd prefer buying for full price? Now you have the choice!
