It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Well almost 3 months ago I switched from 25 Mbps down and 1.5Up DSL to 60 Mbps down and 5 up cable but we get faster than that. When I was Downloading from GOG using the GOG downloader I was getting over 8-8.5 MB/s which is equals well over 60 Mbps.
I am not even getting 1 mb/s right now. I have no idea why. Normal max is 1.8.

Pisses me off.
I max out at 1.9 megabytes. I can't complain, it's a new house and we're pretty close to the exchange.
Recently upgraded the internet and download speed went from give or take 1.5 MB/s to around 12 MB/s.
Could be faster but can't complain, considering my PC has to be connected to the router through power-line adapters since it is too far away from it. Those slow down the speed a lot. The advertised speed I pay for is 300 Mb/s maximum.

That's slightly better than what I'm getting without Galaxy. But this can vary I suppose. Sometimes I can peak above 10 MB/s as well, so it's probably near the upper limit of this type of downloads on GOG.
Fine.

Themken: Some of the GOG file servers are starved for bandwidth I guess. I usually get very satisfactory speeds at a couple of different locations, no Galaxy (other than space games doh).
avatar
Sarafan: Satisfactory means how much? There's clearly a problem with the web browser downloads. What's the reason, I have no idea.
avatar
MightyPinecone: You know that you can download the offline installers via GOG Galaxy, right?
avatar
Sarafan: Yeah, I know that. Out of curiosity I've tested it a few seconds ago. I reached a whooping 70 MB/s, but... a few seconds later it fell down to 0 MB/s. After a second it was back above 60 MB/s. And so on. I believe it's not an issue with my connection. I've tried to download from other sites and the download speed was stable.

fr33kSh0w2012: 5.5Mbps download and about 771kbps upload!
avatar
Sarafan: Is that megabits or megabytes? The latter isn't that bad. The "b" letter points to megabits however, which is really poor.
Yeah MegaBIT's Australia's internet is F**KED!

Download = 5.5 Mbps = 685 kB/s Upload = 776 kbps = 97 kB/s

The net speed here in my country isn't very good. My download speed is 1.2 Mbps.

Are you with SingTel?

Most large telecom companies (especially Singtel/Optus) are BAD

They use WIFI towers for Landline Internet and Phone that is why you are getting 1.2Mbps

Go with a smaller Company their you will get value for money
I get a download speed of 5 MB/s, which happens to be max my line can handle as well.

HereForTheBeer: I get my connection's full download speed via browser or Downloader: 768kbps.

aaaahahahaaa.

crap.
Why do I keep remembering you have some 200Mbit/s internet connection, or am I mixing you up with someone else? Didn't you start the thread about "did internet speeds just got an upgrade?" or such? And come to think of it, I am sure I have actually asked this from you already before...

EDIT: NOOOOO... it was the oldfatguy person. Sorry for the confusion, you all look the same to me. You are both from the US so it is understandable I mixed you up.

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/did_the_internets_get_an_upgrade/page1

I have downloaded my whole GOG game collection (1604 English Windows installers + extras) mostly through my 10Mbit/s cable modem connection, and I am fine. I can use the computer for other things while it is downloading in the background, EXCEPT play online action games like Team Fortress 2. If I want to play TF2, then I just pause the download for awhile and continue it afterwards.

My need for higher speeds (over 10Mbit/s) are only so occasional that I just don't feel like paying a bit more extra every month for a 100 or 200Mbit/s, or even a 1Gbit/s, internet line.

I had the same speed from 2005 on (when DSL got available) for over ten years, before I moved to a proper city. The first thing I did was get a 50Mbps connection almost two years ago...which I upgraded to a 200Mbps connection a bit over a year ago. I really hope I won't have to ever get back to those times. While being limited to 360p was ok, downloading any files whatsoever was a pain.

It presents challenges, but they can be worked around. For instance, if we MUST get an important download then we can go into town (a few miles) and leech of family members' connections. Otherwise I wait until my next business trip, and take care of this at the hotel.

The biggest actual problem is when we're both trying to use the connection at the same time. Other than that, we're mostly just missing out on streaming video. Not a huge loss. It's frustrating going from 10Mb that we had in town to less than 1 Mb out here, but as long as it's fast enough to do Remote Desktop stuff I need for work, then we'll get by.

That works. I was mainly interested in games at the time, so I would get those from friends who lived next town or elsewhere. As I said, 360p was okay...only downloading installers for MMOs was a pain. While their size was still fine in 2006 (would take 12 hours on average), five years later, it would pretty much take double the time.

I'm surprised they allow you to work with that connection. Where my sister is, to qualify for remote work, you have to have at least X speed (like 16Mbps) when it comes to bandwidth.

The advantage with such low speeds is that you will immediately know if something happens in the background. For instance, when I tried out DotA 2 back when it got released and had to install that shitty Steam client, I immediately noticed that it started downloading something in the background, despite me having any such things disabled. Obviously, I got rid of the client pretty quickly.
