I'm currently archiving my games to my HDD and currently I'm more than annoyed that neither in Galaxy nor on the website do the installer display their versions and the only workaround I have is do download the installer and look at the file name to see if it's newer than the one I saved.
Strange, I can see the version of the offiline installer.Try to do log out/log in method.
Just checked my game library and all the offline installers had the version numbers listed without needing to download.

The offline "backup" installers for most any game that's been added or updated in the past couple years (at least) should show the version number to the right of the filename in your library viewed via a regular browser; no idea about Galaxy.

- Fallout 1/2 Classic show no version
- KKND2 shows no version
- etc.

The installer all have versions when I download them, so I reckon it can't be hard to have that version also show in the download section.

Those are very old titles that haven't seen developer updates since before GOG existed; that's why I specified "most any game that's been added or updated in the past couple years (at least)". ;) (If memory serves, GOG didn't used to have in-game version numbers visible for ANY games, even in the library -- they only showed their internal version numbers related to how often they had updated the installers.)

I'm sure some people who have any of those titles could tell you what version numbers they are at. You should also check those game series' forums here to see if the info is already posted.

They display version numbers. It's just that they haven't bothered doing so with games that were released prior to 2013-2014 and/or haven't seen an update ever since 2013-2014.

Something bad is going on, so many bad changes in short time :/
I don't think GOG got consciously rid of anything, they're just not really consistent and up to speed anymore when it comes to maintaining and fixing offline installers.

What do you need to know the version number for anyway? Galaxy will make sure you're always up-to-date! /s ;P

What bad changes? It looks like version numbers were an addition from a while back. So far the games in my collection that don't have version numbers are from games that the publisher no longer has a right to the IP.

Fallout Classic, Fallout 2 Classic, and Fallout Tactics are all from when Interplay owned the IP, once they sold the IP to Bethesda they can no longer legally make changes/alterations/uploads/updates to the files connected to those IP's unless Bethesda gives them permission to. So it could just be down to Interplay not wanting to seek permission just to put a version number up.
Some aren't reported on the actual page, but some are:
Listed in the installer's filename
Listed on the changelog (if available)
Listed in the game itself after you install ;)

Not ideal I know.
Everyone should vote for this regardless: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/more_detail_on_offline_installer_pages
Yeah, some games just logically never updated.
