Just read straight from the dev that City of Brass got rejected by GOG... I just don't get that... there are a crap ton of crappy games on here and then they pass on that? Geez

Unexplored is another one... I read that the dev asked GOG and they never responded or something

I'm all for curation, but not at the expense of rejecting really awesome games

It always sucks to see games get rejected and perhaps, if enough people make their voices heard, that can be reversed, but devs never getting a response, positive or negative, is unacceptable. Someone should create a thread to specifically keep track of the devs that have contacted GOG and never heard back. These instances should be brought to the attention of the people in charge and they should attempt to reach out to those that have been left hanging.

*Sigh*. Again.

"Awesome" is subjective. Therefore what you suggest is impossible. There is no way to have curation "not at the expense of rejecting really awesome games" because given the amount of players, *any* rejected game is going to be perceived as "awesome" by someone.

We either have no curation OR we reject "really awesome" games. Tertium non datur.

the curation leaves a lot to be desired.

A universally praised game is not subjective

Unexplored - Steam - 95% Positive - 373 reviews

I'd say that qualifies as "awesome"... now what type of games a person likes is subjective... we're talking quality-wise here

That city of brass looks pretty poor from the YouTube I saw. The site has a fair few roguelites here already, not sure why that one didn't make it. As for curation, not sure curation is the right word. The shovelware released here certainly doesn't suggest that, try the move the hole around "game" from today. Loads of games have been rejected, no apparent reason.

Yes. By definition "awesome" is subjective. Even if 100% people say a game is "awesome" it's the subjective opinion of those people that the game is awesome.

If the game gets praised for being an excellent game, then subjective is something different, ie "it's not for me", which in this case, GOG decided "it's not for us and our customers"

But the same can be said for the super crappy, 2.5 star roguelites for sale here

Do you know anything about the devs?
I'm not siding with GOG, trust me, I'm just curious. Is there the slightest possibility they threw in something about limited installs/subscriptions/clients that maybe would have forced GOG to say no?

If there are no underlying circumstances then indeed, this is a bad bad bad decision by GOG.

Er... no.
A game can't be "objective" or "subjective". A quality is subjective. Beauty is subjective for example. Because it depends on an individual's perception. Just like awesomeness.

Okay, then let's take it back a step since we don't see eye to eye on that one... let me ask this... why did we get Donut County today instead of Unexplored? ;)

And that's what I'm getting at... the games they "let in" and the games they reject don't seem to have any rhyme or reason... The Community Wishlist:

Donut County: +6
City of Brass: +31
Unexplored: +54

So the games people are asking for are not getting added and the games people don't really want, are... and it's worse when you read from the dev that they tried to get it here and got rejected

Even if we take "voters on Community Wishlist" to be a representative sample, which it really isn't, given the number of GOG users, 6, 31 and 54 are statistically insignificant. They're nothing compared to the margin of error.

most voted (ever) Games

People are idiots... and wishlist votes - or lack thereof - are no indication of whether or not a game will pass GOG's curation processed

The wishlist = fan's pipe dreams
