I see both are on sale and in a dual pack .Yeah i know dual pack makes it better value, however i am wondering whether if i buy just one, should i buy Old Blood (the prequel but from comments the better game - more recent but has higher discount oddly?), or New Order which is the older game but the more recent storywise? . Does story get messed up if i play Old Blood first?.

OTOH anyone know why Wolfenstein (2009) isnt here? (yet or if ever?)
Both are mechanically good.

I personally would shift toward TNO, it mixes the hard feeling gunplay with the cinematic side. Old Blood is good too, but some of the combat could get kind of monotonous, especially the first section.

If memory serves, Bethesda just plain does not like the game and wishes no one else remembers it.

Here is the review that mentions an interview where this was basically said:

On the topic of the two games, I really did not like TNO and tried Old Blood but its sub par performance put me off and it did not impress me in the initial stage so I removed it from my system. I really liked Wolfenstein 2009 and adore RTCW.

Both are good but I prefer TNO. You don't have to play OB but it's a nice prequel to the main story. The main difference between the two is that TNO focuses more on advanced tech while OB focuses more on the occult side of things.
low rated
young blood?:D
I liked the mechanics of both games, but I didn't really warm-up on the overly serious tone of the games mostly because it felt out of place on the comparison on how overboard the technological progression of the Nazi regime was shown. The world design and the villains felt like they were ripped from a dark, campy comedy, but the story was anything but. It's quite a tonal whiplash.

I would have preferred the story to be kept in bare minimum like in the first Wolfenstein 3D. There's a time and place for a heavy story and these Wolfenstein games definitely aren't it.
I would really advise you to pick both in the pack. Those games complement each other really well. You can play them in any order you wish, as the story will not get spoiled.

OB feels like a homage to games from 90. There are less cutscenes and game is more focused on action than storytelling. Furthermore it has greater replay value as it has score based challenge mode, that allows you to replay several sections of game (surprisingly enjoyable and well put together mode).

TNO is more scripted and cinematic, with wonderful and immersive design (artwork, concepts and all the small notes you find that build the world are alone worth the price of admission). I am glad I played it and I rate it high (although I am not a big FPS fan) but I do not feel the urge to replay it anytime soon, as focus on storytelling is sometimes negatively impacting pacing of game.

IMO...

The Old Blood is great. I've played through it multiple times.

The New Blood is ok... but I lost most interest 3/4 of the way through.

Ask to Activision, NOT Bethesda, Wolfenstein 2009 it's NOT a Bethesda game
Played both of them earlier this year and had fun with both of them; not sure if i'd choose one or the other, especially since the double pack offer is nice enough.
I found both games got their moments of brilliance and some shortcomings. Many interesting areas, the concentration camp, the insane asylum, the place resembling a Gestapo house, but under explored and very short closed off areas. What I liked was playing the old Wolfenstein levels, sneaking instead of running and gunning, the cut-scenes and some of the character stories, the resistance group and looking for secrets. The character improvement did nothing for me beyond the 200% medical/armor buffs. I didn't like the boss-fights in either game. Dragged out and way to easy. The ending is nothing to write home about a let-down to me.

They are both worth playing and since there is a two-pack get them both and start playing either one. :-)
Both are great fun but imo The Old Blood is superior by a little bit because it's more focused on only delivering good gameplay while turning down the cutscene stuff to a needed minimum.
I wouldn't say that The Old Blood is the better game, it's just different. Personally I enjoyed it a little more, but that all comes down to what you expect.

TNO is bolder, more ambitious, more story-focused, more cinematic, a bit more futuristic, a bit more varied in gameplay and challenges, probably a bit longer, too. I liked the crazy bits about the story, but was bothered a bit about the serious and extremely cruel parts of it.

TOB is more game-y, gameplay- and level-centric, with more conventional weaponry, a simpler, more easily digestable story and more consistent (or less varied) environments.

In short (and very simplified), TNO is more like Half-life, TOB is more like Doom (or rather Return to Castle Wolfenstein).

Bethesda owns the rights, just like Wolf 3D and RTCW.

Why would you play the expansion before the actual main game? Just play them in order and don't ask silly questions.
