I decided, recently, to take a screenshot of Bard's Tale 3 and post it on a few places on the forum; this screenshot showed a Land Reaver attacking a party of 0 adventurers (achieved by forming an all-monster party and dropping the last party member). Then, in this topic, I asked "Bard's Tale 2 or Bard's Tale 3"; the user who answered had obviously seen the screenshot (or at least a screenshot with it attached), and chose Bard's Tale 3 with an explanation like "efficient 0-person party"; hence where I got the idea to ask this question here.
Of note:
* If you try this in Bard's Tale 2, you'll get a game over as soon as you drop your last party member; Bard's Tale 3 lets you continue until a fight starts (unless you successfully run away) or you manage to reach a damage square in a dungeon.
* Unfortunately, you can't complete Bard's Tale 3 this way; there's no way to enter the alternate dimensions (which make up the bulk of the game) without a Chronomancer. (I suspect it might be possible in the DOS version (or maybe the Amiga one?) via arbitrary code execution with a roster that's too big for the game to handle.)
* I believe that in 1st generation Pokemon games, it is actually possible to glitch your party size to -1 Pokemon. I know that it's possible to get an inventory of size -1, which is treated as a very large number (255 I believe) and allows you to access memory past the end of your inventory and do some strange things. (For example, you can warp to the hall of fame; see any 1st generation Pokemon spedrun that isn't in a "glitchless" category to see this done.)
Edit: Forgot to attach image.
