I tend to listen to the games music unless it really sucks or is too repetitive. Then I just turn the music off and just listen to the sounds.

As for your question, it strongly depends if I think the music adds or substracts from the game. Besides, the ambience in some games is so great on its own that having music only distracts you from the experience.

So, generally on, but not always. ;)

Most games loop their music and use the same sound effects all the time. After awhile, this annoys me, and/or a family member so I often turn the music off in a game and play it silently from that point on. Sometimes I will play some classical or other instrumental music in the background instead.

Its a real complement to a game if I leave the sound on to the very end :)
