So.
I'm slowly starting to get a bit "behind" in tech jargon, and since I want to buy a new PC (built by myself that is) at the end of the year, I need a website or some kind of THING that will show me CLEARLY:
1.) The differences in CPU processing speed for apps and games - i.e. Dual/Quad? What kind of ghz and difference does each make? AMD/Intel?
2.) Graphic card comparisions for both ATI and NVIDIA. A REALISTIC one, without bias would be nice.
3.) Price range.
Basically, I would like to be able to see graphs with good explanations. And if it's even possibly out there, be able to say, compare x with y. Maybe add z too.
Is there anything like this out there? (It doesn't have to be AUSTRALIAN per se - I mean, once I can compare them realistically, then I can simply look on the various Aussie online retail stores and compare these myself.)
Thanks for your time.
EDIT: DAMN IT! I didn't click the "Mark this as a question" box before posting... ARGH.
tomshardware used to have a "bang for buck" style break down of graphics cards.... don't know how often they update it. Not sure about being "easy to understand" but they sure have a lot of info on PC hardware there.
If you're talking notebooks, then notebookcheck has a pretty reasonable breakdown of mobile graphics cards, broken in to rough groups (great, good, ok, poor, etc..)
Im an Avid Guru3D.com reader and they have charts on every graphics card they review based on there test rig which is a standard rig that rarely changed anything but the GPU...

Yeah I used to do Toms years ago until they started becoming more 1337 than the audience. And I'm talking about desktop PC :)

Cool, I'll check that out! Ta :)
Intel, Nvidia, cant go wrong, they run cooler and more stable then any ati/amd rig Ive ever made and Ive made a crap load, in many configurations... I always go back to the cool efficient intel/nvida 1-2 punch!

Your going to be one happy monkey once you get that windows 7 system up and running.. with then the new Direct X 11 Software literally rite around the corner and these sexy as all hell graphics cards that have put the 8xxx series to shame (finally) are going to drop once the new hotness comes out from Nvidia (wait till gen 2)
Nvidia rule of thumb.... They are great but only every other series... 8x Awesome, 9x totally bollox, 200 series sexy as all hell.. new series nearly guaranteed 100% bollox!
New series after that? MMmmmm you know what Im talkin about... Ive had my 8800gt since release and Ive never once regretted buying it. in fact once i go windows 7 and actually use a dx10 system it will still work fine until the GTX285 drops in price for me...
OH and if i can score the 295 i think I'll pass out and convulse on the floor and then only the tears of unicorns might save me.

Sheesh, DX11? If DX10 is any indication, Microsoft has pretty much forgotten what DirectX used to mean and DX11 is just another one of those "whatever" moments. I mean, wow, circular circles and better polygons? Yay!
That said, being on only a DX10 GTX 295 makes me feel a little cheated.
Well for price range I'd go for shopbot.com.au, you do sort of have to decide on a few cards to check but it'll show you the best price it can find.
Whilst this is going to sound biased, I just don't think AMD have what it takes anymore. They've not managed to impress me in several years, had nothing but trouble with their hardware in any computer I've built or worked on, especially video cards! I've literally never encountered an ATI card (out of 7-8) that wasn't shit in some way or other.
Contrastingly, with and intel/nvidia combo, I build them and they run perfectly until the moron who owns it says "Ooh random file I downloaded from the internet *CLICK CLICK*" and fucks up his computer AGAIN (I've dealt with this one guy far too often, he got me to build a sweet gaming rig for him a few years back and did little more than play flash games & dwarf fortress)

But Dwarf Fotress has all those INSANE pixels!
Without editing the hell out of my post.... again.... i wanted to clarify that the GTX 280 is where Im going next upgrade not the 285/295 i don't know what i was thinking... i forgot about the speed and power under the 280's hood... ugh... thank god for ATI driving prices down 100-200 a quarter!
....Wait, Dwarf Fortress? Id rather play bloody knuckles with One of these guys :)
Nevermind, i edited this too... HAHA its a trademark now!

Trusted Reviews/ do a good job of comparing computer hardware to other similar models.
