soulgrindr: (...) if he allowed an 18 then they'd let in stuff even more obscene.

Vestin: I don't follow.
Once you hit 18, you're allowed to see ANYTHING there is and freedom of speech assures that art can depict EVERYTHING, no matter how twisted it may be.
The only ways to argue would be to suggest setting the FINAL bar even higher... or to say that not everything can be depicted in art (in this case - in video games)...

never said it was logical.
But, for example, Mr Atkinson has frequently used the example of Rapelay (japanese hentai game about rape) as the kind of game he's trying to fight against. (though it has never been released outside japan).
People have claimed "that's not true, and 18 certificate wouldn't allow games based on rape".
But now he can say "well look, the ratings board allows games where you can pop out eyeballs for 15 year olds, imagine the filth they'll allow for 18 year olds!!! shock horror!"
Well, sadly we're at the point where people will get sickened with modern graphics if they are used like that. AVP2, if anyone remembers, let you pop someones head off and spear it to a wall with a speargun, and if they had the capabilities back then it would look gruesome, but they didn't. Back then all you had was a fake looking low polygon head with red texture stains on it.
My point is these kind of games existed for years, they just didn't have the capability to be a gruesome looking as they do now with modern technology.
By the way, big Aliens fan, big Predator fan, big fan of the first 2 AVP games, but the AVP movies were horrid. I hope this game follows in the footsteps of the first games instead of the lackluster crap movies.

Agree with that too. Comparing old AvP games and this one is like comparing, well, let's say Happy Tree Friends and AVP:R. Pretty much same violence but presented in a different way and with different techniques. Old 3D looks more like something drawn than recent 3D.
The problem for me is not the blood violence in games, but just the way it is shown. I mean, with this new AvP game, I just have the feeling of watching some B-rated (but realistic) gore movie, the blood violence is shown without subtility, without any "cinematographic" talent, as if the devs behind the game were children playing with their technologic tools.

People should've said "If there's a market for it - so be it". Anything less than a strict "over 18 - anything goes" approach would allow him the slippery slope reasoning.
IMO - the biggest mistake he's making is confusing fiction with reality.
Besides - it's truly debatable what is suitable for whom at what age...

acare84: After Rogue Warrior, I am really suspicious about this game...

It was OK, played it, the ending credits was pretty awesome, a little short, but whatever.
OK, so it was terrible and everything I hoped for in the game was ruined.
When glanced at, I keep reading the thread title as: Aliens Vs Predator Is Appalling.
