Well, since the sequel is coming this year what do you think are the chances of GoG releasing the original game sometime before then? I never had a chance to play the original, but I always wanted to. Most copies I've seen for sale are ridiculously expensive (There is one on Amazon for $500, I kid you not). eBay has a few reasonably priced copies, but I imagine that the game, being almost 11 years old and all, wouldn't even work on Vista anyway.
It works fine on modern OSes. Most games do actually, not sure why you assumed otherwise. It's a very rare game that does not work on a modern PC.

Anyway, it's an EA title. When EA come to GOG I am sure it will be on the list. Also I would bet my ass they release it on Steam when the sequel goes out.

I've been wondering why Stardock and GamersGate don't have it already because they have American McGee's Scrapland which is lesser known.

It's a Quake 3 engine game. The quake 3 engine is one of the finest and most compatible game engines ever made. Specifically for Alice, the game was very well programmed that no patch was ever released except for a minor patch for matrox card users only. I've run it on xp and Vista x64 without any tweaks. I'm confident it runs on Windows 7 also.

I can confirm this game works very well on XP.

It's also awesome. Demon Dice are the best.

It does... 64bit too.

I hate the demon dice. Jacks plus Ice Wand combo always gets the job done for me.

Good to know although I wasn't really taking a big gamble with my statement either.

I've encountered a number of games that don't run right on modern OSs. For example, I still can't get the retail version of Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition to run right on Vista, which is why I'll be getting the GoG version at some point. I browsed the official site and got every patch I could find. I can play the retail version, it is just really unstable. Some of the MechWarrior games are also iffy on Vista, and I'm pretty sure that I had a lot of trouble getting System Shock 2 to run when I tried to play it again, but that was a while back.

In my experience, trying to run older games (As in 10+ years old) has been rather hit or miss.

I'm still using XP - I've heard a lot of complaints about Windows 7 not running a lot of games that didn't come out over the past two years.

On the other hand, however, I've heard of games, meant exclusively for newer OSs, working in XP.

Because this is the internet and that what people do, constantly bloody complain!

Seriously though I have a lot of games and aside from the minor 256 colour issue on really old stuff and the occasional 16bit installer problem, things work fine and dandy on Win7.I certainly don't have issues with ANYTHING designed for XP or beyond.

I'll probably install Win 7 soon enough. I just need to make sure a few utilities still work.

Neverwinter Nights and System Shock 2 both work on Vista and Windows 7. Both require a little tweaking but a google search should set you up for that.

The main games that have an issue running on a modern OS are very early Windows games, like Windows 3.1 or 95. Those are kind of hit or miss. That said virtual machines should eventually straighten that out.

Just a heads up, I am selling a copy of Alice on eBay, along with some others. I've tried to make it reasonably priced. It works fine on Vista 64 bit:

In my experience with Win7x64, installing & running 50+ old games (admittedly many on DOSbox), Windows 7 is vastly better than XP - once you get the idea of Compatibility Modes.

Alice is just fine with no modifications (although I do disable themes & desktop composition, and run as Admin). System Shock 2 takes a bit more work, but the available patches work fine. Compatibility Mode is vital for Win7!

The first Bioshock, sadly, screams at you incessantly, and it appears there's no solution to the sound issues.

The biggest problem with Win7 for me has been DRM - StarForce will break your Operating System. It forced my laptop to reset to factory settings and reimage. Everything lost!

What sound issues? I bought this from Games for Windows Live during their launch sale and it runs perfectly on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.
