tfishell: "Cringe" - the internet and social media has made this word much more common. ;)
Interesting. I use the word fairly often, but haven't really noticed it in excess on the internet (I use almost no social media). I've noticed a rather frequent use of 'cringe-worthy' though.
tfishell: I remember an open letter or two to GOG (basically regarding the changes they were going through), but they didn't seem whiny to me.
Don't get me wrong - I acknowledge that there are certainly cases where an open letter is well thought out, well written, and not just a whine/rant. But it seems to me this is far less common than the "You guys suck because you're not giving me what I want" type of open letter.
Thaumaturge: I haven't been active on this forum for long enough to have seen many of the open letters that would seem to have come and gone, but regarding open letters in general, I don't have a problem with them: I think that they can be useful in both communicating with the target and raising awareness of the issue being discussed--the latter especially.
Definitely, but see my post response above.
Just to be clear, I wasn't prompted to create this thread due to any open letter threads on GOG (I can't actually recall having seen one recently). Rather, it was on another web site that I check out on a daily basis - and this particular one, although very well written, was complaining about something that had been dealt with months ago.
