I was watching tv the other day and there was some scene with an orchestra playing something I kind of liked. I started wondering what cool strings based stuff there might be floating around. I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for but I tend to like strings and piano while avoiding brass. That's not a hard rule, but a strong pattern.

I've gotten into soundtracks the last couple of years and am not against discussing them, but I have sifted though a lot of that stuff.
The hebridies Overture - also known as "Fingal's Cave"
I am required by nationalism to recommend Jean Sibelius' stuff.

gosh :(

that piece of music has brought me to tears, when I saw it performed live.
It's almost a cliche, but Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" is a nice piece of work.

Damn, you beat me to mentioning Sibelius. I'd have postd Finlandia, though. I love that piece.

Your tears need not be shamed by me. It seems quite well done, but I think I have a rather narrow, even fickle tastes when it comes to such music.

It's great and I would've posted it as well, but it starts with brass, so I picked one that didn't :p

True, but what kind of person doesn't like brass? I'm sure that Gooberking does too, he just doesn't know it yet.
Sort of pseudo-symphonic stuff, but the Heroes of Might and Magic III soundtrack is pretty neat, and it comes in all flavours (different towns). The Fortress piece is based on strings, if I recall correctly.

I don't know why, I know its weird. To make things more confusing I do like steve jablonsky's soundtracks and he does work them in quite a bit. I don't understand how its different. It may also be personal. I did violin when I was very young. I did trumpet too but wished I hadn't switched. Not that it matters I sucked at both.

I will give the songs a fair shake I promise. But I have to finish with this Four Seasons thing.
