grab 7zip, that'll unrar it and it's free.

Rar is actually quite popular. I see rar files a whole lot in my travels around the net.

That's the one I've always used, and it says it won't open rar files????

What the heck have I done wrong now???

It is old I suppose (don't remember how long I've had it) could that be it??? Maybe an updated version will do the trick???

I'm going to download this and see.

Thank you very much. 7Zip is the one I've seen on almost every comptuer I've ever used. But on mine it said cannot open file. ???? I probably screwed something up. Again.

OK, I installed the Morrowind Overhaul, but I wasn't sure if it includes the patches. Anyone know whether this is all I need or whether I need to also use the MPP mod???
I had to check just to be sure, but the overhaul now includes the patches (MPP and Code Patch).

Thanks. I looked, but all I saw mentioned was the Code Patch, I couldn't see the MPP listed anywhere, so I wasn't sure. Anyway, thank you very much.

For those on the fence about the Morrowind Overhaul mod, let me just say this straight out.... IT IS AMAZING. It quite literally took my breath away. I had been playing vanilla Morrowind and then fired this thing up after the Overhaul mod and my God the difference in graphics is nothing short of AMAZING.

That said, however, because Morrowind apparently isn't good at optimization, if you select all of the options for enhancing graphics, you're going to take a performance hit. Even on brand new super computers (Mine is an i7-3770k with 32GB Ram and 2 Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 ti's (NOT running in SLI mode as was told Morrowind actually runs better NOT in SLI mode).

That's some serious power and yet I ran up against frame rates in the low 20's several times.

And this is just personal opinion, but IMO some of those enhancements were "too much." I don't know how to describe it other than that, but the amount of vegetation is one thing as in there's just too much of it. If I were going to do this to play it (rather than just to look at it like I did tonight) I would definitely turn off a lot of the added vegetation options because IMO it's just too much. Not just the fact it slows down the performance, but to me it takes away some of the gameplay. Seeing critters from more than a few feet away is difficult and sometimes it's difficult even when they're close there's just so much ground vegetation. YMMV.

Just the compass mod. The game is flawless otherwise.
I know I have it somewhere in an archive, but the most awesome mod I ever came across was one that added physical backpacks to the game.

it's funny how the little things make the biggest difference.

Combining an old game engine with such an array of graphic mods is pretty much a death sentence for your fps, but it's still pretty handy when you wanna go in "screenshot mode". :)

Also, after looking at my modlist (148 mods?! How did that happen?), I saw many good dungeon crawl mods and balancing mods, but I don't think you're looking for those yet, so no mod recommendation from me for now I guess.

sheepdragon: You could say the same for The Wilderness, Morrowind Comes Alive and WIzard's Island as well. So if that's detrimental to your enjoyment of the game, then those should be avoided as well. I personally don't mind it. I've played the vanilla game enough to play around with it.
Agreed, and the monsters it adds are actually quite good. It's just OldFatGuy said he didn't play Morrowind all that much in the past, so I'd not suggest installing it just yet.

fr33kSh0w2012: Tamriel Rebuilt NOOOOOOOOO DO NOT INSTALL IT IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST PLAYTHROUGH IT WRECKS THE GAME!!! that's what I did and thats why I never went back to it NO, NO, NO, NOOOOOO!!
It adds a landmass for hi-level characters. It doesn't change anything in the base game, you can't even get there from Vvardenfell save for flying, swimming and using almsivi intervention in the right location. How on earth can it wreck the game?

Heh, I actually liked vegetation, by large part because animals could finally hide in tall grass. Still, amazing thing about Morrowind Overhaul is that it's so easy to customize: Just turn off the grass and you're done :-) And it's weird that the game would run so badly for you, I've got way less powerful computer (I have 560 ti as well tho) and everything maxed out, game works great.

Are you using an enhanced EXE? These can be used to make Morrowind use SSE and up to 4GB RAM to improve performance. , [url=http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php]4GB Patch. Some enhancement packs do these improvements for you so you may already have them.

Overhaul is indeed beautiful but my system can't handle it.
Here are some of my favorite mods, maybe you'll find something you like:

Better Bodies
Better Clothes
Connary's Textures
Signy Signposts
Fresh Faces II
Dark Brotherhood Armor Replacer
Soulgem Ingredient Retexture

All of these are cosmetic and don't affect gameplay.
