So if you were wondering how this great game was developed, what were the most difficult tasks that the team experienced or whatever else, send us your questions at users-at-gog.com or post them in the comments section until Wednesday, September 23 at 11:59 p.m. EDT and we will get the answers for the most interesting questions for you. And to make this even more fun, we're adding a new batch of artworks for Original War!
Thanks GOG for another Dev Team Q&A opportunity; its great you put the players back in touch with those who made it.
I think what I'd like to know is how they felt Original War transcended the stereotypes which were synonymous with RTS games since Command and Conquer back in 1995; were they worried about it getting lumped into the slue of mid-naughties games which were trying to all do the same thing?
Was the third side ever planned to be fully playable?
I love Original War! And make sure to let the devs know many of us love their game! It's one of the very few RTS's where I not only cared about keeping my main character alive but also everyone else. If one single human unit died, I always ended up wondering if i'd need their skills afterwards or if the unit would be crucial for some other plotline somewhere ahead and sometimes i just liked the character itself that leaving them to die just felt so wrong.
(SPOILERS AHEAD!)
When I played the final american mission and I had to wipe out the american base (I took the alliance route) these scientists and engineers started popping out of their labs and depot and started firing on my tanks and vehicles and i'd be yelling at the screen "What!? NO! Run away!" but they only surrendered after bloodshed was spilled. Well, except for an enemy engineer whose health bar was in the red when he fell to the ground, then the surrendering sequence started to run and when it was over, I sent a scientist to fix him up before he died. I thought he'd join my side or something but he just started to wander peacefully around and I was unable to control him. That kinda felt good because I didn't just kill them all (at least i managed to save someone) and i really liked this about your game. Oh, and in the russian campaign, killing off american units I had already played with in the american campaign was not one of my proudest moments.
(/end spoilers)
My question: What are you working on? Are you working or will you be working on something similar to Original War but brought to modern 3D engines? (wouldn't be too original if you were I guess, but I'm still interested in knowing)

Holy hell, I've got so many questions...where to start?
- in an interview with (Czech) Gamestar magazine, somewhere in 2001 or so, Mr. Chvatil (at least I think it was him) said that you were planning OW expansion, starring Heike Steyer (German mercenary working for Arabians). Could you say something more about the planned storyline?
-is there any chance of Original War 2?
-is there any chance of Fish Fillets 3?
-I know that you were working on a RPG called Vision, but no-one wanted to distribute it, because it had to be "too hardcore". I know that V.Chvatil has developed some boardgames and that your sister company publishing house Altar has developed famous (at least here in Czech rep.and Slovakia) pen and paper RPG Dragon's Lair (DrD), so my expectations were quite high.
The question is, are you planning to develop it sometimes later, or it is a definitely dead project?
Do you still play games? Only it seems to be an increasing rarity that developers actually play games. If so, do you think that it's important that developers retain an interest in the genres they're working on?
Given the present nature of the RTS market with titles like the Total War series, Supreme Commander, Dawn of War 2, Sins of a Solar Empire et cetera, how do you think the real time strategy game can evolve from here?
Equally, do you think that anything important has been left behind during the progression of the RTS?
Are there any (other) classic games you'd love the chance to remake?
Given your difficulties getting Vision published, do you think that digital distribution opens up possibilities for such niche titles to see the light of day?
How hard was it to develop a non-linear RTS back in those days?
Was there ever any plans for campaign for the third faction?
Was there plans for expansion and what would it have contained? What would have the storyline been like?
In retrospec, If you could have changed one thing in Original War, what would've that been?
Are there feature(s) in Original War you are especially proud of?
Was there any feature(s) you would have liked to have implemented but couldn't due hardware constraints or release deadline?
Any plans for Original War 2 or similar RTS?
In my opinion, Original War graphics still looks much more pleasant than many new titles, even tough it isn't as detailed. Do you guys think 2D graphics has any future yet, at least in the RTS genre?
What do you think of the current trend in RTS games, do you like the direction that some titles like DoW 2 have taken, and do you believe there is a market for more dedicated, hardcore games like Original War today?
Remember, today is your last chance to send us or post here your questions to developers of Original War!
