mrcrispy83: Counterpoint: Soul Hackers.

Though yeah in the short term stuff might get removed from PSN/XBL in such an instance

Foxhack: That's an exception because Soul Hackers -was a port-.

Atlus published a lot of different games on various systems. Anything on PSN / XBL / Steam would be removed solely because Nintendo will never release any of their games on a competitor's service. Period.
Atlus ports and re-releases their games like there's no tomorrow, that's my point.

I mean, they ported Devil Survivor to the 3DS 2 years after its release, then instead of releasing DS2 on the 3DS they first put out the DS so they could release a 3DS version 2 years later.

Their PSX/PSP titles would probably be a cinch to toss over to the 3DS (like Soul Hackers), and they probably could find a way to squeeze in their PS2 titles in there somewhere eventually. I doubt they'd turn down a chance at a fourth version of P3 or a third version of P4 or a fourth release of Nocturne. And they haven't made any current gen console games besides Catherine.

The problem would be with titles that Atlus just published like Demon's Souls or Rock of Ages or what have you, but out of those I'd bet the only title that most Atlus fans would miss if it went away is Demon's Souls.

(and I should say that I'm not really for or against it happening, just pointing that out.)

Foxhack: If Nintendo buys Atlus then that means every game that Atlus has ever released on a non-Nintendo platform would never see another release again.

So you damn better hope they don't buy them.

doady: Are you seriously suggesting that Nintendo never release ports of games originally made for other systems, even if it owns the rights to those games? Why the hell did they publish the Wii U port for Ninja Gaiden 3 then?
... no, I'm suggesting that games that are available through competitors' digital distribution services - like Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, or Steam - would be pulled immediately.

It's one thing for Nintendo to license a game from another developer or publisher for their systems, and release it on their systems. They've done this since the NES days (Mega Man 6 was licensed from Capcom for a US release.) It's another when the actual game was released for a different platform, and never got any sort of official port to a Nintendo system. The PS1 games on PSN are just emulated versions, so unless Nintendo makes a PS1 emulator for the Wii U, we're never going to see another Atlus PS1 game released again, until they remake it. Which costs lots more than just releasing an emulated version.

Even if it would remove Atlus games from other platforms, it would still be smart for Nintendo themselves to buy them. Nintendo really needs more quality software development teams now. Trying to support the Wii U along with the 3ds has been too much for them to do and has ended up causing the big gaps between Wii U releases. Atlus would help provide good games for both Wii U and 3ds. Plus having the Persona franchise would give Nintendo major help in Japan where the Wii U could use it right now.

Old games can be ported without being remade. Ports and remakes, they are two different things.

I find it odd that you worry only for the Atlus games on Sony systems when Atlus has released just as many games for Nintendo systems, if not more. What will happen to the Trauma Centre games if Sony gets control of them?

They can be ported. But you forget something - it's easier to release an emulated game than it is to rebuild an entire game engine for a completely new system.

And I'm aware that Atlus has made a ton of games for various systems. I'm not talking about the ones they've made for Nintendo systems. Other companies - including Sony - would likely say "Hey, we now own these games, let's keep 'em there." Nintendo would just shelve them immediately because they don't release games on competing platforms.

Sony would probably be chill about things and go "Hey, it's cool. Atlus can still exist as its own thing, we're just a majority stakeholder now." Microsoft probably would too. But Nintendo? Not a freakin' chance. I'd also not want to see a Persona game with Mario summons.

Very sad news. The persona series revived the JRPG genre for me. It would be a blow if Persona 5 release would be affected, an no doubt it will, one way or another.
