Which is the better purchase?

What kind of games do you like?

As someone who likes both types of games, I'd say Undying is the better choice.

I tried Bards Tale I couldnt get into it, but Undying is a great game.

Bard's Tale, while not bad by any means, is something of a chore to get into. It's lacking a decent loot system, has a weird perspective, etc.

They are very different. One is a horror FPS, the other is an RPG.

Apart from that, Undying is a great game on it's own. The Bard's Tale, while being OK as a game, mostly lives off the nostalgia effect. So I agree, get Undying first.

I heard it was similar to Dark Alliance on the PS2. I loved that game.

Never played Dark Alliance. So I can't confirm or deny that statement. But I think you will like Undying. Most people, who like darkish games, do.

It has a different feel, and WAY worse loot.

Bard's Tale also has a ton of constant repetitive clicking.
It's a bit like Armed & Dangerous: a few nice gags and memorable moments linked together by not quite well designed gameplay.

Bard's Tale is very pleased with itself for realizing, in 2004, that a lot of fantasy cliches are kind of silly. It has some good moments, but a lot of the humor is really forced, and the gameplay is extremely repetitive. If you like dark/horror games at all, my vote is for Undying.

I suppose the answer to your question is would you rather play a moderately humorous action RPG or a horror themed FPS?

I found the Bard's Tale (steam version) had the ability to totally brick my system such that a reboot was required. Probably not a common issue, but it put me off going back to it.
