It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I had to take my purchases to Steam instead of GoG, which is both cheaper and has more of the games I want. The workaround of using the card to charge up a paypal account is also not a hoop I'd rather jump through just to buy something. Can't anything be done?
Either you could try getting a card that allows for international purchases, or you could hope for GOG to start using a payment processor in the US of A.

The latter is quite unlikely to happen anytime soon (if at all). The former seems the quicker option. Jumping through the hoop of charging up a Paypal account also works, of course.

I believe some prepaid cards can be registered to allow for international purchases if they don't by default.

Use paypal, it's not really that complicated.
I second using PayPal. It seems complicated, but honestly it took about 15 minutes for me to set a PayPal account up. And then you can buy stuff from around the internet without handing over CC details to everyone, which is a nice advantage.

That said, if you really don't want to, you could try getting an international gift card. I assume that a gift card bought outside the US would work, but haven't been able to test that so far.
