(CNN) - Violent video games and a "culture of violence" found in the media could be contributing factors to mass shootings, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said Sunday.

"There might well be some direct connection between people who have some mental instability and when they go over the edge - they transport themselves, they become part of one of those video games," Hickenlooper said on CNN's "State of the Union." "Perhaps that's why all these assault weapons are used."

I know. I don't buy into this either. But I thought it interesting to note this because of the other thread bashing Fox News and right wing media for linking video games. Fact is, they're not unique. Every media source seems to be throwing this out there. But suggesting censorship is a solution isn't one at all. Spending our lives "walking on eggshells" because of how someone might respond to a game is kind of oppressive. I'd rather oppress the bad guys not the good guys.

The Constitution worked well here, until everyone thought that they could hijack it for their own means.

Violence and senseless killing has been around long before video games. What makes people think that a medium that has been mainstream for only 30 years is the cause of all of the violence today? Fucking idiots!!

Well, there have been mass shootings and war in the past, but how about the assault weapons point. The shooters in the 60's didn't use modern weapons. They didn't use assault rifles in WW2 either, and that was some crazy violence.

An assault weapon is "a look"; weapons are semi-auto here at most.

WWII had plenty of fully automatic weapons, that would overpower anything available here.

Edit: Available here, means to the public not under disability, in the legal sense, from owning one. Full auto requires special license issued, and tracked, by the government.
