You know the System Shock 2 animation that starts up when you enter the site now? That would be so cool if someone or perhaps one of the GOG staff could provide it in gif form.

Pretty please could someone do this? I know there have to be some talented GOGers out there that can make a gif for it.

When you go to the homepage it loads up with an animation of Shodan opening her eyes and powering up. That's what I'm talking about.

There is a brief animation of Shodan opening her(?) eyes when the page loads, but you have to be looking directly at the screen when you load the page, or you'll miss it.

I've heard about that but I don't see it. Whe I go to gog its just goes straight to the homepage with shodan in the background

Force refresh the page so it doesn't use the cache, the delay may allow you to see it. For IE, it's ctrl-F5, not sure about other browsers.

I think I see the problem. The "Top sellers, new and coming" etc is blocking her eyes.

I'm sorry to derail this topic but I have another problem. I can't buy the game. When I click process order, nothing happens.

Actually, since it is a purchase problem, s/he'd be better off contacting GOG directly through their support links. There isn't much the community can do to fix a problem that is very much on GOG's end.

I've tried cobbling together a local "standalone version" of the animation from the source code, but it's beyond my skills. I don't know enough about web development to make it work, or to even be sure if it is possible. All the animation involved appears to be implemented in .css, of which I know next to nothing.

I tried various gif versions of the opening animation but the result is way too big (100MB),
without even factoring in the lost quality (256 colors)...

However, converting it to mpeg4 gives pretty neat compression rates (< 1MB !),

Edit: Here is a gif of the "shodan opening eyes only" short version of the animation.

This is awesome, thank you very much. I love largely uncompressed gifs so 10mb gifs don't bother me or my hard drive space. Quality for archives is best and awesome too. :)
