Hi guys. So, I just found my old Steam account information and logged in for the first time in several years. Because of that gap in usage I am quite unfamiliar with the site and their usual services.

The client is asking me to download a game called "Awesomenauts" with a note by it saying that I have '6 days left'. As far as I know, I do not own this game, and while it looks okay, I am unsure why I am being prompted to install it. Could this be a game they are offering for free? Does Steam even do that?? Or is it some kind of trial offer or perhaps even a gift?

I apologize if this is a silly question. I looked for a place to ask this on the Steam site, but all the links seem to lead to the product information page, not to a forum or discussion page.

It's a trial. Steam sometimes offers deals like free weekends or stuff like that, where you can get a game for free and play it for a certain amount of time to try it out and then decide whether you'd like to buy it or not. This happens for MP titles in most cases.
It's free for the next 6 days for everyone.... as mrcrispy83 says. Free trial
If you mean the starter popup, are you sure it wasn't showing one of the deals they have going at the moment? Awesomenauts is one of the weeklong deals for -66% 3.39€.

You can disable that one in the Steam -> Settings -> Interface -> Untag Notify me about additions or changes to my games, new releases and upcoming releases.

Edit: or it was a free trial as said above ... xD
