I bought Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and I read online about Star force or whatever has to be installed. I heard nothing good about the program...did I just fuck myself?

Some people have no issues, some have a lot (and really bad ones).
Can't say easily, on what your situation is, but it's a (sad, unfortunate) reminder to see what DRM scheme each game uses.

Meh, I'll just pretend my game never existed and that star force was a cuddly teddybear I shot dead...DAMN, 8.99 wasted.

Protip: Before buying a game on Steam, always search or ask on their forum about the DRM scheme.

I have no problems with Steam, Its that retarded Star Force I have problems with...Hell, the original Splinter Cell would've been a better buy.

I've been playing it this week. Magic is pretty cool with the drawing runes to cast spells system.

If you bought the game on Steam chances are very good there will be no Starforce considering what happened the last time they tried to sell a Starforce protected game.

Yeah, it contains starforce. Which demands you restart your computer at least 8 times a day and 9 on weekends just to run the damn game. It's terrible, yet still manages to be better than having activation limits.

Starforce destroyed 2 of my disc drives. I know because I had Starforce on my PC with those 2 drives. I didn't use them a lot, but within about a year after buying them, they'd stop reading CDs or DVDs. I attributed that to my usage of emulation software like Alcohol 52% and CloneCD, which I required to play games like HOMM3 without loading the disc. After that I avoided Starforce like the plague, and my disc drive has been healthy for 2 years, and still going strong.
