Thanks for the giveaway :D

As for anime, my favorite is Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood; its got a great story with interesting characters and an unique premise. :)
Thanks Tarnicus, I'm in like Flynn!
Does Pokemon count for anime? Sorry, if that offends anyone but I'm so not an anime connoisseur. I suppose I could google some random anime and say that's my recommendation but I'm sticking to Pokemon even if no one would recommend it these days.

Thanks for the continued generosity and fuelling the hoarding addictions in fellow GOG-ers. :D

And now as you are a member of our lord GabeN inner circle, can you tell me what's the Half Life 3 release date. Promise I won't tell anybody else. :)

Thanks for your giveaway, Tarnicus! +1

My recommend anime this time is one of my favourite animes: Full Metal Panic! series. It blends in robots, romance, comedy, military altogether very nicely; the series itself contains 3 titles - Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu, Full Metal Panic! TSR.

Congrats to the new Director of Acquisitions.
Thank you for the generous giveaway, Tarnicus.

I'm not into anime, my brother does. I'll be back later with a review. Perhaps I do like some in the past but can't remember anything right now.

My favourite anime movie is Sword of the Stranger. The story itself is rather mediocre but I loved the art and animation, one of the characters has the same breed of dog that I do (Shiba-inu) and there is an EPIC duel at the end that is one of my favourite fight scenes. And the soundtrack is awesome as well.
Thanks for an amazing giveaway, Tarnicus. :)

My favorite anime comes from Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki and others have made some amazing films, and the one that stands out most to me is probably Grave of the Fireflies by Isao Takahata. It is a very, very sad movie that stays with you forever. I consider the movie essential viewing for all people on this planet. It's a movie about two children, a brother and sister, struggling to survive in the aftermath of the bombing of Kobe near the end of WW2. The movie is not about who is right or who is wrong. It is simply a very human story about the terrible effects that war can have on society and children. It is a haunting film, but there is also a sad beauty throughout. The music is quite amazing, too.

This may not be the most uplifting anime work mentioned, but again it's such an important movie. I consider Grave of the Fireflies to be one of the best anti-war films ever and easily a top 5 animated movie of all time. It's quite a difficult film to watch, but out of the many films I've seen, anime or live-action, GotF is one that always comes to mind when I think of great movies.
I'm in like Flynn! even though I won't win...

As for anime... I've got a soft spot for Genshiken which is a humorous look at otaku culture and lifestyle with references galore.

Genshiken follows the lives of a group of college students drawn together by their shared hobbies, and the trials and adventures associated with being otaku. The story begins with the introduction of Kanji Sasahara, a shy, confidence-lacking freshman who on club day at university, decides to join a club he would actually enjoy, Genshiken. Over his four years at Shiiou University, Sasahara comes to accept himself for who he is and loses the inhibitions and guilt he once felt and associated with otaku culture, becoming an enthusiastic clubmember, and for a time, a capable club president. As the story of Genshiken progresses, focus is also placed on Saki Kasukabe, a determined non-otaku who initially struggles to drag her boyfriend out of the club, and Chika Ogiue, a self-professed otaku-hater who feels a deep-seated shame and self-loathing toward her own interests and hobbies.
During the course of the series, the reader bears witness as the group grows in its cohesiveness over time, and bonds form between the characters as they begin to see themselves as more than fellow club members, but friends as well. In this context, club activities such as group outings, the biannual pilgrimage to Comifes, and even simply hanging out in the clubroom, allow the characters' complex relationships to grow into friendship, infatuation, and at times, even love. While a few of them never quite see eye-to-eye about their interests or the lives they lead, they are held together by the bonds of friendship that they share.
Also <3 Ogiue... >_>

Anime: Psycho-pass. A recent uro-butcher epic, a kind of police procedural thriller/mystery set in a totalitarian future where all human psychology is quantified and surveilled. Very clever, thoughtful, meta-aware stuff, with characters discussing phillip k dick, classic science fiction and philosophy. One of the very few series of the 2012/2013 era that is a must-watch, with almost none of the usual anime tropes (high school, harems, fan service etc).

The old-school Special Delivery on Nickelodeon. My favorite of that was Bear Skin. It was about this man who made a deal with the devil -- infinite money, but he had to wear a bear skin for x number of years and never bathe. So even though he had money, he couldn't hardly spend it b/c nobody wanted to be around him.

I think the same thing happened to Matthew Machonohay.

Sachys: really worth purchasing or hunting down at the few libraries across the planet that stock it - seriously!
Hmmm... Perhaps over my winter holidays. Thanks for the recommendation!
