I have Win 7 32-bit. I also have enough store credit to buy 1 dungeon siege on steam.

Do they both work for Win 7? Which is the best?

Thanks!

Do NOT buy them on Steam, they are broken (don't support mods, in particular the Ultima remakes which are the best reason to own DS1) and have the expansions taken out

You can buy the Dungeon Siege Complete Pack for $5.

Its the daily deal. I just bought it, amazing value.

I only have $2 in credit. And I bought and played DS3 for XBox and didn't like it much.

Thanks for the tip. I'll pass on the Steam versions, then.

The Ultima V Lazarus mod is terrific. It would be a real pity to own a version of Dungeon Siege that didn't allow it to work.
Dang, no multiplayer in Steam versions, too. Stay away!!!

Oh, and if someone looks later, it looks like the games do indeed work with Win 7, but not 100% of the time on modern hardware. It can be a crap shoot, but most people look like they're getting it running well.

I seem to be one of the few who get lousy framerate on both my "modern" pc's, maybe it's a nvidea issue (on pc is vist, one is win 7, both are nvidea cards). Great games though and i also liked dungeon siege 3 a lot.
Dangit, owned by Microsoft and they seem all DRM-happy as of late. -_-

Everything I can find says that the mods do work with the steam version. The installers seem to have problems, but the mods work fine when installed manually.

Hmmm, well I might be wrong then, I purchased DS1-2 with 3 (no reason not to, you can't buy them separately and it's the same price with 3) and I couldn't get the Ultima mods to work with them.

No they are not. Square Enix bought the IPs.
I have them (original version) and they work fine on win 7 64bit.

I had to do something, this may have been it, it wasnt much bother as I recall anyway, if this doesnt work have a google search, there is an easy work around available somewhere if you have an issue :

Dungeon Siege and Windows 7 x64

I found a super easy way to get Dungeon Siege working for Windows 7.
When you try to play the game a window will come up with some bull about having compatibility problems. Here is what i did to get the game working perfectly on my Windows 7 x64 (64 bit):

1. Make sure you install DirectX 9.0c since Windows 7 doesn’t come with it!
2. Install the game like normal
3. Go into the directory were you installed it probably “C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft GamesDungeon Siege”
4. Double click on DSVideoConfig.exe
5. It will probably say “Primary Display Driver – Hardware” change it to whatever video card you have. For example i would change mine to “NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX – Hardware” DO NOT PICK THE ONE THAT SAYS “TnL”
6. you can pick whatever resolution, shadows or filtering you want and click OK
7. Now play the game!

EDIT: If you are going to play Legend of Aranna you have to go into your documents folder go into the Dungeon Siege folder open your DungeonSiege.ini file and copy the first 3 (4?) lines. Go back to documents folder and go into the Dungeon Siege LOA folder, open the DungeonSiege.ini file there and paste it over the first 3 (4?) lines there.

Really! How long have they had them?

Since DS3 was made.
