This is why I stick to GOG. If you want to avoid DRM issues, stick to GOG and/or pirate.

Probably, but it does avoid drm issues. If you want to avoid drm and the long arm of the law, stick to GOG.

Don't know. Software piracy is a weird one, and does depend quite a bit on where you are and who has to prove what.
As for water piracy, I think getting shot is more probable than getting arrested, so I'd advise against it.

In the past, they outright banned your account. Disabling all access to purchased games.

These days, they probably restrict your account. You can play your current games, but cannot purchase new ones, trade, receive gifts, use the market place, use (some) community features, or activate retail keys.

Just don't ever do it. I know someone who did that accidentally; it took them several months to get their account back.
