Navagon: Cooperation with the competition? What is this? Communism? In Soviet GOG, game buys you?

Tirpitz: So in Soviet GOG we're DRM free, yes? :P

No DRM in Russia. Russia crack good.
In russia, game cracking frees your games.: )

In Soviet Russia, free games crack you.
I would actually rather GoG get into selling new Indie games, such as World of Goo and Darwinia. I think it would fit a bit better than huge, mainstream titles and would be well priced against the old school games they already sell.

I'd rather they stick with the old-school games for now, as that's one thing nobody else does, and there's like a million other classics I want GOG to be working on. Leave the indies to Steam & Co.

Yeah, because they definitely want to see GOG make money with Steam.

Indie games would require a completely different approach, i think they mentioned that in an early interview. But it would be nice to see the gog team selling indie titles as well. Maybe, older indie titles? :D Or new indie titles that look like older games? :D
If GOG started selling indie games or whatever it would lose it's charm. As a relativly new PC gamer, I come here for one reason, to check out classic PC games I missed. If it started selling indie games it would soon start selling other stuff and become just another download site. I like what it's doing now. Didn't the company behind behind GOG make The Witcher? I mean, they don't even sell that. I think they've got a good thing going and it'll grow. Soon all publishers will have to take notice and sell their classic games here. The money will be to easy to turn down.
A good argument is what classifies a classic game. Some of the games on this site aren't all that old.

I don't see why GOG couldn't sell old indie games, assuming they fit the good part of GOG as well.
Agreed. It shouldn't matter if a game came out in box or not, only that it's good and old.

Personally, I think it would work a lot better if Indie games had their own site with joint user accounts. That way, you'd maintain the purpose of GOG while supporting the ever-awesome indie community.
I reckon this site's going to need to be out of beta a while before they even want to think about any kind of expansion.

I wonder why it is still in Beta, after all this time (maybe they plan a one year beta status?).
And, speaking of expansion, I also wonder when virtual shelf will be updated, my list of games has grown a lot in the last months and it's becoming hard to keep it in good order :-o

This site went past the one year mark with the Interplay sale. So I'd imagine it's a case of 'it'll be done when it's done'.
As far as I'm aware, the main problem area right now is the downloader. While you can download games using the browser just fine, the downloader just flat out doesn't work at all for some people. There may be other issues, but that's certainly the most broken aspect of GOG.

Google Mail was in Beta for over five years (2004-04-01 to 2009-07-07, according to Wikipedia), so I'm not sure GOG has to hurry in getting out of beta for a while yet.
