Stuff: Didn't own the original Scared Gold but the GOG version allows you to start a new game in either campaign. You can also import your character from the fist in the the second. I don't remember an option to install just one or the other.
You cannot chose to install the game without the expansion though.

Stuff: Windows shows two Sacred Gold installations. Don't know if GOG did this or if it was like that in the original gold release.
Some GOG released do that, both in add/remove programs (programs & features), and in the games explorer (the latter happens more often, as GOG installs their own entry, then Windows detects an old game and adds one as well... I've even seen three entries for one or two games).

GhostQlyph: The original DVD copy of Sacred Gold does indeed allow starting in either campaign, and character imports. (Without imports, you will not survive the expansion.)

The original DVD release only installs one copy, though.
Looked in both my Vista and XP installs, both are showing two installs for Sacred Gold so the OS seems to see the campaigns as separate installs.

hehe . . . will need to try an Underworld game from scratch now . . . =)

Miaghstir: ...
I had come to the same conclusion having saw multiple installs for other game as well. Good information, thanks . . . =)

SimonG: The reason I'm asking is, that in the GOG wiki, we wan't to make entries for each game, not only for each product (e.g. Commandos 2 and 3 have an entry each, additionally to the product entry).
If you're making a GOG wiki then you're best off focussing on the games sold as they are. Otherwise you might as well just call the project Moby Games.

AdiJager: Sometimes u can uncheck the expansion's in gog installer.
avatar
SimonG: Thanks for the good answer! Good to know somebody recognized what I wanted to know.

In your expirience, would you say that is the case in the majority of the cases or restricted to a couple of cases?

cheers!
Can't tell this, becouse i dont have much game-pack's from gog. I have attached screenshoot of the installer.

EDIT: If it is very important to you u can allways ask for that in game specific subforum before buing.

It certainly sounds ambitious. Hell, just writing about the six pack of M&Ms sounds ambitious. How much detail will you go into? Will there be a section on overcoming technical problems / technical problems that can't yet be overcome?

That will be YOUR job! We are just building a framework to start with ;-).

And believe me, there were some discussions on how to handle this ..

Edit: The structure will be like this

Ishar Compilation <-- Product entry

Crystals of Arborea] <-----------------------|
Ishar: Legend of the Fortress<-----------|
Ishar 2: Messengers of Doom<----------| Game entries
Ishar 3: The Seven Gates of Infinity<----|

Sometimes there is an additional series entry (like M&M or Zork)

edit 2: well, we're still discussing the details, but that's the rough sketch

Blood 2 asks if you want the expansion, so does Postal 2.

Hmm, that's a fairly recent change then, the last time I installed I'm pretty sure the expansions were deselectable.
Die By The Sword can be installed without Limb from Limb.

In the GOG Wiki please include the link to Hazard's mod for DBTS as that solves the severe discoloration problem in Vista/7.

No, I won't.

You will ;-P. We are just setting up the basics. Once we are done this thing will be community driven. I don't know sh*t about DBTS, so this will be your filed of expertise.

EDIT: As long as I don't hear something different, I expect that expansions can't be installed without the main game

Allrigth, we are down to the last stretch. Those are the games I still need to know if they can be played without the expansion.

Alien Shooter + Expansions

Empire Earth 2 Gold Edition

Empire Earth: Gold Edition

Freespace + Expansion

Haegemonia Gold Edition

Knights and Merchants: The Peasants Rebellion

Lords of Magic: Special Edition

Spellforce Platinum

If the answers would be as good as the ones from Damuna, that would be ideal. But I can settle without screenshots ... ;)

Edit: Thanks to bazilisek, Gothic Gold is answered
