Lexor: FF... 10? wow, fast.

NoH: Indeed, the developers have been cranking out new versions of firefox every single month for quite some time now. Firefox 10 is more like 4.8 or so...
No kidding, has someone sent them ... ah whoops, Firefox 11 released now ... a bag of coke or something that made them so .... and there is Firefox 12 ... eager to release new versions this quickly when Firefox 2 and 3 had ... and Firefox 13! ... years between them not to mention that ... Firefox 14! ... it just confuses matters for people and makes the folks making plugins look quite ... 15!! ... outdated when their plugin supports version 5 when just a few months later version 16 is released <.<

Don't worry, Firefox 12 is the last one that'll have a version number :)

And its Chromisation will be complete.

I see the point of doing this, but it's still quite ridiculous.

For the standard user it doesn't matter, and for the power user there's still a way to find out what version you're on, so I honestly don't care one bit.

I think it's actually better for the standard user, because he's usually terrified of software updates for some unexplainable reason or other. But if that was the plan all along, the sudden speeding up of major version numbers was quite pointless, wasn't it?

Guess 12 is just around the corner then (which is the joke I was getting at ;))
Wasn't a massive bohoo made last year when 4.0 came out?

Yes, but the Firefox development process has changed completely since then. They have switched to a "rapid release cycle," where a new Firefox version is released every six weeks. It took almost three years to go from Firefox 3.0 to 4.0, but under the new rapid release schedule they went from 4.0 to 10.0 in less than a year.
