the first quest in "Become a GOG Hero" contest aren't actually following GOG.com on Twitter. This makes it impossible for us to direct message the winners we picked and tell them they won a free game! So if you took part in the quest and re-tweeted the message, please follow our Twitter account and you may receive a DM from us. You have time until tomorrow, as we really want to give out those free games to you asap :)

Oh, and we know you can't DM us if we're not following you, so don't worry, we'll follow every winner we picked.

As I slightly shamefacedly admitted back at the act 1 contest thread: I only really have that twitter account for these kinds of contests :P

hedwards: I realize that it's a marketing thing, but I would've thought that Mr. Gog would be above this sort of spammish technique.

Having people follow you or retweet or friend you to win something like this is something which ought to be way below a classy establishment like this.

rjspring: I agree with your premise, but this type of thing has become fairly standard in today's marketing gimmicks... I frequently see other companies and organizations do something similar and if it boosts the GOG service, so be it.
Right, but if everybody else uses DRM in their store, does that mean that Mr. Gog should? I think a lot of the people that are here are here because Gog isn't like that. Things like this just undermine the value of the brand.

If they really want to go the peer recommendations route, they'd be a lot better doing referral codes or buddy contests.

Actually twitter is pretty much the same as an ordinary blog. You can use it to relate your life if you like but just as many accounts are used for news, reviews, articles and so on. All you need to create an account is username and password, no location or name information is required.

So while there are reasons you may not want to sign up (a big site like that is going to be the target of scams and hacking) a lack of interesting content on twitter isn't one of them, and accounts act as central collecting points for the tweets of all the twitterers you're interested in as well as an ability to post you may not be interested in most of the time.

That's nothing to be ashamed of.

Anyway, the point of this competition was obviously to spread the word about GOG to the Twitter community. If you don't want to do that, that's your choice. You don't have to enter the competition this time.

So don't post anything. I've actually found that twitter is great for getting responses from devs working on games or other programs.
Anyone know why I'm not getting a password recovery email sent to my email address?

I had completely forgotten about this until the other day (thought I'd just get sent an email if I won) and forgot my password along with it. When I first tried to recover it my account was locked, and now the email wont be sent.

If I enter one of my three email addresses I'm told that no account exists, but when I enter the user name for my account it tells me it sent the email.

Anyone know what's going on? And anyone know how to contact Twitter other than through the mail? All they have on the contact us page is an address....

They sent me a confirmation so I know I put in the right email.
I don't really get what so many people's problem is with Twitter. As someone who loathes most 'social media' (particularly Facebook), I personally love Twitter. I use it mostly as a type of aggregator to keep up to date with things I enjoy as well as reading what some genuinely interesting people have to say. The only times I write are to either reply to something that really peaked my interest or to retweet it. Works for me.

Pheace: Darn, guess I didn't win then since I'm already following and no DM xD

Fujek: Exactly what was on my mind :(
And mine, as well. P

Won a game too, thanks GOG!
Wow didn't win a free game. Thanks for Nothing GOG.

Well I was brought up that I should always be polite :)

Actually I'm not too worried, the games here are cheap, especially when on special and provided the Australian Dollar stays high I'm winning.
