Hi everyone, just joined GOG today and picked up Empire Earth. I know I probably should have done my research beforehand, but do UK users get charged a foreign transaction fee, and are the prices calculated at the exchange rate? (i.e. $5.99 is ~£3.80).

Thanks.

This is down to your individual bank.

Use paypal & you don't get charged.

Straight conversion, no fees on GoG's side.

My bank (Well, Building Society - Nationwide) charges a few pennies for each sale. Normally about 20p.
GOG themselves don't charge conversion fees though, they charge directly in USD

Your bank maybe, but as Rod says it's dependent on your bank.

Mine (Santander) charges £1.25 per transaction IIRC, so I use Paypal who only charges a few pence.

Cool, I'm with Nationwide, got any experience with their payments?

Gonadius nailed it for me there, thanks.

This will depend on your payment method through PayPal. If you use PayPal to pay with a credit card, unless you select to use the credit card provider's exchange rate, you'll be paying the PayPal one - which in my experience, is a higher rate, resulting in a slightly higher price. But again, this will depend on whether the credit card provider offers a better exchange rate.

This.

My bank, RBS, charge £1.20-£1.25 per debit card fee to gog.
PayPal use a slightly unfavourable conversion rate, and it's something like £0.20 per transaction.

In the UK, you can keep your PayPal empty, and it'll take funds from your bank, instantly, no fees, and send it to gog.
Much better system for paying here.

This is exactly what I do.
Never had any luck in dodging the Foreign Transaction Fees. I get charged with my paypal account and through GOG. Too bad they don't have Amazon payments, I do not think I was charged one for one of the KS projects that was overseas.
I have noticed the Amazon Credit Card waves FTFs. I have been planning to sign up for one, but I need to get rid of two out of the four I currently have as I don't use them.

Ah, that's how you dodge it, but I refuse to give paypal my bank account number so that's out for me.
