I was interested in gaming history and those days when game studios were small and breakthrough stuff are being made we see now in new games.
Back in the days, games were mostly made of visions of one or two men and some of them are forgotten.

I check on this forum and couldn't find any thread that talk about those people and decided to make one, although those people deserve whole sites.

I would start with Julian LeFay, creator of first 2 Elder Scrolls and BattleSpire.

Found 2 cool stories about him:

1. From man who knew him

2. Thread from ES forums

Other geniuses I didn't found much are Andrew C.Greenberg and David W. Bradley, creators of Wizardry 1-7.
Creator of Might &Magic, Jon Van Caneghem now works as head of Victory Games, a subdivision of EA games and he is working currently on the next F2P Command and Conquer.

Feel free to mention some other forgotten masters...

I'm not much into character-driven History, personality cults, and lone genuises myths. But hell, that Sid Meier guy got his name stitched on too many of my favorite games : Pirates, Covert Action, Civilization... Isn't he behind Silent Service and F19 too ?

Gaming history: the board game Go - supposedly invented by chinese emperor Yao somewhere around 2337 - 2258 BC as teaching tool for his son to learn discipline, concentration and balance. Another theory suggests it was invented by chinese generals and warlords playing with maps and stuff (although id imagine XiangQi suits that better) - and then some theory suggests that it was invented by Gods.

I vote for the last option, as the game is just so damn good.

No bugs left to fix and all balance issues fixed quite some time ago ;)

I think Jon Hare deserves a mention in this thread.

Notable games:
Wizball
Shoot'Em'Up Construction Kit
Cannon Fodder 1+2
MegaLoMania
Sensible Soccer

This. I think it's a mistake to say that such-and-such is an [instertnamehere] production (unless it's a small indie game or somesuch), as I feel like that gives a false image and is unfair to the many people who work on these things. (Remember that person in the thread about the SHAKER Kickstarter who argued that Tom and Brenda were lying when they said they had team members who worked on Ultima because apparently the only person who worked on Ultima was Richard Garriot?).

Speaking of which, no mention of Lord British?

EDIT: That being said, my hero worship of Tim Schafer and Chris Avellone will never end!

Madmate: I found out that creator of Might &Magic, Jon Van Caneghem now works on King's Bounty series.
That would be EA, Command and Conquer Generals 2.

All King's Bounty games are now developed by Katauri.

I'm not in personality cults, also, but back then it wasn't all big teams around games. And mostly it was one man vision and small teams behind it. Off course, even Pajitnov didn't make Tetris by himself, but it was his vision.

What are you talking about? He made the first King's Bounty game in 1990 and that's it.

The man works as head of Victory Games, a subdivision of EA games and he is working currently on the next F2P Command and Conquer.

Sorry, it was my fault. I just checked Mobygames history and he is credited but just thanked in new series. You are right.
Jon Hare again with Parallax on the Commodore 64, first game ever to use 2 way scrolling, the background moved in a different direction to the foreground which you played in with your ship and when you landed to rescue the scientists.

Other worthwhile mentions go out to

Last Ninja Series (Visually stunning and amazing audio) - System 3

Rob Hubbard for his music work during the 80's
