This contest is over. Go to the next contest http://www.gog.com/forum/general/game_photography_contest_2_june_edition/page1

Contest: Take a photo from a game, and put it here. At the end of the month, I will select three favorites from these pictures, and gift games to owner of them.

Rules (important):
1- These pictures must look like a real photograph and without the game interface, chat panel or any similar panel.
2- This is not a screenshot contest, so "hey look at my high score" or "phear mai l33t skillz" type of screenshots will not be counted as a photograph.
3- You can use minimal photo editing, like contrast, sharpness, hue, brightness adjustment, but please no photo montages.
4- Suitable photography forms and techniques will be accepted, aerial, architectural, cloudscape, landscape, street, wildlife photography etc... Treat the contest as an art contest, so you don't have to do things like photojournalism, documentary photography.
5- Don't cheat. If you put a picture that doesn't belong to you and this is detected, your picture will be out of contest. Take new pictures for this contest.

Prizes:
First prize: Maximum $20 (19.99) amount of games from Steam or GOG
Second prize: Maximum $10 (9.99) amount of games from Steam or GOG
Third prize: Maximum $6 (5.99) amount of games from Steam or GOG

Bonus: Your friendly neighborhood hero Grynn will also gift a game in this contest (however he wants).

I'm sorry but I find these rules conflicting.

there's can't be any hud, but you're also not supposed to do any photo editing?

and somehow a 1992 game is supposed to look like a "picture"?

I'm glad you created a giveaway and I don't mind rules, but either I misinterpreted your rules or they just sound conflicting to me
How do you take a photograph of a game without using a screen shot?

And how do you know that someone hasn't just gone out, found a nice image, and passed it off as their own?

And why do they call them Grape Nuts? You open the box, no grapes no nuts. What's the deal?

I think he meant we shouldn't do "look how big my cock is" type of screenshots.
But yeah, it is confusing, nonetheless.

Please look at the rule number 3:
"3- You can use minimal photo editing, like contrast, sharpness, hue, brightness adjustment, but please no photo montages. "

I said no photomontage, but you can use photo editing. Cropping the picture to remove the hud, will not be counted as photomontage.

What I mean with "photo montage" is this:

Well, it depends on the game and your skills. For example if you google Another World, this picture comes, and I would count this picture as a "photograph":

And you don't have to restrict yourself with 20+ year old games, even GOG now has 2005+ release date games.

I appreciate your effort muratogut and a big +1 for your creativity and generosity, but I think I'm going to have to sit this one out. I seem to have done too many drugs as a kid to completely grasp the instructions. :P

You will take the picture as a screenshot. But you will not put the picture here as a screenshot.

I thought It was easy to understand, but unfortunately it seems it is not.

Look,

I will count this as a "screenshot":

And this one as a "photograph":

I hope this will clarify.

Let me repeat the first two rules:

1- These pictures must look like a real photograph and without the game interface, chat panel or any similar panel.
2- This is not a screenshot contest, so "hey look at my high score" or "phear mai l33t skillz" type of screenshots will not be counted as a photograph.

What these rules mean?

1- When you took the screenshot from the game, you need to remove the HUD from the game. In some games, you can toggle the HUD on and off with a hotkey (Alt+Z for WoW). Or you can crop the hud with a picture editor (Photoshop, Paint.Net, etc...)
2- Please do not put your screenshots just to show your Latency number, your high scores, kill streaks, and similar show offs.

So, again.

This picture will be counted as "screenshot":

But this picture will be counted as "photograph":

Hmmm... That sounds interesting.

And are all parts of the game allowed, e.g. intro, video scenes etc., or does it have to be in-game footage?

I think im following, the problem is im struggling to pick just one game to find an image from lol!
Love the idea idea for this giveways though, its even fun and interesting without the giveaway!

short version (of how i understand it): if you can toggle off the hud etc in game then do so, take a screenshot.
OR if you cant (toggle off the screen elements) screenshot and crop.

Think the images you see in advertising / game reviews they tend not to have the hud elements etc but show some epic moments in game. Thats how i understand it anyways.

..
