Kingoftherings: Got a problem with CS bub?

michaelleung: Yes, I do. There are MUCH better games than Counter Strike and while it's a solid game, it's still just a bog standard shooter and by no means a top game of the 90s.

I think Counter Strike was significant, if only because it's the first big example of a player created mod becoming more popular than the platform it sat on.

Nah, that goes to Team Fortress Classic, without a doubt.

Navagon: I've been keeping an eye on that as it developed. Not a bad list on the whole. Naturally, I think it needs more Total Annihilation. Especially over Starcraft, which didn't really move the genre forward at all.

I totally agree! I mean, when a game released in 1997 still gets mods and total conversions today, you know it was built right. Check out http://tauniverse.com/
It's also interesting that their vote for No. 1 Real-Time Strategy Game of All Time didn't make it into their top 25 list?

Now there''s an article I can agree with! It does make their completely ignoring TA all the more inexplicable. I can only assume the people behind this list weren't the same ones behind that article . Clearly they were very much more FPS focused for starters.

Syme: It's too bad they didn't like Civilization more.

Agree completely. I lost more hours of my life to Civ2 than any other game, hands down. They had a pretty good list going until I realized it was missing that.
I guess it's safe to say that the 90s were among the best years of PC gaming. So many good games came out, no one could play and enjoy them all.
Civilization is a huge loss. Other than that its actually a pretty decent list. I would put in Dungeon Master over Outcast though.
