While I was in Japan and my hubby in Germany we played Diablo II a lot. :-)
Therefore I recommend Torchlight II. It's colourful, it's easy to get into and doesn't cost a monthly fee.
Portal 2 ;-)
Any fighting game.
You should also get Dvinity: Original Sin as soon as it comes out, I think that would be perfect for that - I actually think it's probably designed exactly as a couples game.

Minecraft, definitely. No monthly fees to pay like with WoW, and I think non-gaming people can enjoy it too, especially in Creative Mode. Runs great on my old 2008 non-gaming laptop.
