I'm looking for some games that don't r on GoG.com, like Street Fighter Alpha, King of Fighters and Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness.
Many of games on GameTap.com runs directly from browser, like an arcade emulator, and some like Tomb Raider don't are for selling on another place online, just on GameTap.
I'm not sure if all these games are on GameTap legally, someone know about this service?
Tyvm
(GoG.com, plz, publish Street Fighter! \o/ )
As far as I know they're legal. They'll get a lot more games because their so tied down in how you can play them. Publishers are more than happy to let you sell access to a game if they know they can pull it at any time.
Yes, GameTap is legal.
Game Tap is the net equivalent of going over to your friend's house to play a game on his computer/console.

Except your friend is charging you for it and pays some of that money out to the copyright owners.

True. Then again, maybe I have really capitalistic friends....

And if I remember correctly, games from GameTap can't be modified so you can't use mods on them. And they fixed the 64-bit incomaptibitility yet?
It's basically subscription based rental service where you can play the games in their catalog as long as you pay the monthly subsription fee(similiar to some music services allowing you to listen any music in their collection for monthly fee). Some games can be played for free.
See wikipedia for further details.
Noticed fun detail in wiki: Since the takeover of Gametap by Metaboli in 2009 live technical support and/or customer service is no longer available at all. All tech and customer service issues, including cancellations, must be handled by email only, and real-time support is simply not available.

I don't know about Gametap but Metaboli introduced a new player with 64 bit support. Many games on their service are already working fine with 64 bit, both new titles and old ones that have been reworked.
The new player also introduced a new data structure. Instead of an unlockable 'virtual' drive the games are now installed on a tradicional folder so i would expect that to allow the use of some mods.
If/how/when this will carry over to Gametap i don't know...
Tyvm all!!!

it isn't a problem, gog and steam don't have live support too...
i sent a question to gametap on 18:14 and they answered on 18:19, 5 minutes waiting ^^
but they don't solved my espectatives... dont work on 64bit OSs, dont hide ADs when logged as paid member and can remove games from catalog =(

I've had nothing but trouble with GameTap since the takeover.
Of course it's legal. A big, antiquated media company created the service, and a French company made it worse.
gametap was cool when it came out...
GameTap is cool for discovering games, then purchasing them from someplace else.

Fixed. GT is pretty much useless now.
it used to be great... but then it mostly stopped working in my country. Since then it's gone through loads of changes, including a change of ownership.... maybe i should try it out again.
(though i have enough games from gog/steam that i don't need anymore right now...)
I'll always be thankful to the original gametap for being the game that let me try out Psychonauts!
